Unplug the coolant senser right next to the water outlet if that works the coolant senser is bad, p.s if you dont no where the water outlet is follow the top radiator hose to the engine it has to wires that plug into the coolant senser

When I turn the engine off the engine cooling fan stays on and does not shut off

depending on the engine temperature the fan is supposed to remain on after you turn the engine off, until the engine reaches a preset cooler temperature. when it reaches cooler temperature usually within 5 minutes or so it should cut off... if you cut it off and it is running 30 minutes later.. then there is a problem with the fan relay or temperature sending unit.

I have a 99 saturn sl, my engine fan keeps going out cant pass service light on

I believe that the reason that your fan is staying on,and causing the fuse or fan motor to go out,is because you have an overheating problem. Which could be several things....water pump, radiator, thermostat,or blown head gasket.I would have the whole cooling system checked first. Secondly, where are you buying the fan motors at?

My car heats up during the day and turns off .. help

is your water/antifreeze mixture correct and full? take of radiator cap when cold and start motor as i warms up the water start to circulate if not stuck thermostat or bad water pump. when the car heats full up does it blow steam and water out of the tail pipe? check the ol level does it look milky? either of the last two indicate a blown head gasket or cracked cylinder head. bye from sunny austin tx

Mini Cooper convertible is overheating, fan contiues after stop

I had this exact same problem -- for about a year and a half! Replaced thermostat, replaced sensor twice, replaced overflow tank, replaced radiator cap, placed a grounding kit on the car in case the problem was electrical ... and was ABOUT to replace thermostat again and then the water pump when a new mechanic suggested we bleed air out of the cooling system. The heater core was PACKED with air, as was the upper hose valve area. Previous mechanic had been using a pressurized fill device to bleed the system and this had just been backing air into the heater core. There are two valves under the hood for bleeding air -- one on the heater core and one on the upper hose. It only takes a few minutes to fix this!
