Had coolant loss i added rad fix in a can two weeks later winter hit car overheating but no heat in car

    You have an air lock in the cooling system.Could you see the leak? Or is your coolant mysteriously going away?You need to properly vent the air from the system,but it will be useless if you have not identified your leak and fixed it.Please clarify these questions and I may be able to instruct you.

Intake manifold gasket gasket (serious major problem design with this vehicle) I had same problem and had to call the head office in Toronto and threatened to sue. Head office paid for the bill. Over a $1000

Heater problems 2009 dodge nitro v6.


Possible, with rad cap off, let vehicle idle until coolant fan comes on then shut vehicle off for 30 minute cool down. Top up rad, install cap and drive and recheck heater operation and any overheating.

Flushed the heater core changed thermostat, water pump is good, changed fuse, heater was throwing heat but was over heating,checked radiator(flushed and added new fluid) now back to no heat


no, not special but you failed to stated engine, there are many engines.
and some are very tricky here, like 2.0L.
First state the symptoms,
your post states its overheating, then no heat. (why?)

Example if me, with overheat.
I see my dash gauge, show overheating and engine power drops and pings, then steam vents from the rad, cap?
Over heating (ill skip cab heater but on 2L this path blocked causes thermostat to go quite nuts. not posting engine, makes this hard.)
1: full of 50% AF (antifreeze)
2: new thermoSTAT they age and fail fast. so get a new one.
put STAT in with the wax slug down, and jiggle bleed pin forward.
get air out of system after filling, (RTM)
start car, and....
4: then using and IR pyro gun we then check that
the thermostat housing hits 170F min. but not too hot.
run motor till top rad hose gets too hot to touch 180f is normal.
I had to drive 10 miles, to get it up to 180F.
my car has the hotter, 195 STA,T so runs at 195f. (helps cooling)
USING the pyro gun , the top and bottom of each rad tube.
This tool is Amazing.... and saves burn hands.
if the bottom of any RAD tube is way less than the others?, that is
a clogged UP rad tube. solution is , NEW RAD.
Usually rad repairs, are more costly than new. IN USA.
The water pump must spin at full speed, belt tight.
The impeller or some suz, motors likes disappear. from electrolysis action. so not looking at the impeller is a FAILURE on the mechanic side.
if this car has 2.0 I-4 (4 banger) it has a coolant tube on the rear
of the STAT housing, this tube must flow coolant at all times.
if it dont, the thermostat , will go nuts.
nuts means, that insufficient flow passes the thermostat wax block
causing the thermostat to cycle in a wild and random way.
I dont like this design but is reality. If applicable.

Overheating, loss of coolant, reservoir not working


Sounds like to me your mechanic is on the right track by having the rad cap changed. If the coolant becomes low again in the near future and there is no visible fluid leak on outside of engine or on floor/ground then your problem is internal and possibly a head gasket.

99 Firebird still overheating after repairs and antifreeze


overheating is most likely a bad thermostat, but the coolant loss is a second big concern. Does the exhaust look like steam? You could have a cracked block and the coolant is leaking into the engine. Also check the oil for contamination.

could be waterpump?
i was going to say rad fan,but if so heater would be hot.
lack of coolant will make heater core to blow cold,if engine heats up with full coolant,usually means poor or no circulation.
water pump?
run engine with full coolant,at operating temp.with rad cap off and look in rad cap hole and see if there is movement of water inside rad.
[rad fan will not come on if water is not circulating through rad water pump?]

Is the reserve tank cracked or have a deteriorated hose going to the radiator? Remove the tank to find out. A bad seal on the radiator cap can also lose fluid. A coolant leak anywhere can deplete the coolant level in the radiator and reserve tank. Check your owners manual for antifreeze type and mix ratio with water.

Overheating 2005 Equinox, after belt replacement.


This could be Caused by a Faulty Tensioner not keeping the Belt Tight enough or even the Thermostat. Check the Belt and see how tight it is First.

'98 Century--Sporadic over-heating


Be sure to have heater (not defrost) on when refilling rad with coolant, and leave cap off until rad fan has come on & off 2 or 3 times, then replace cap. Airlocks are common on vehicles cooling systems, and will cause symptoms you are describing.
