Unfortunately, Explorers are notorious for transmission issues. The overdrive light flashing is either the detection of a shorted EPC
(Electronic Pressure Controller) or a defective sensor. Bad shifts are
a sign of the EPC, while good performance would suggest a bad sensor. I have also seen issues with the valve bodies and torque converters.
You can try removing the electrical connections on the transmission, cleaning them and putting di-electric grease on them, but unfortunately, you will likely have to take a trip to a transmission shop. Swing by an Autozone and have them pull your codes. If the light is flashing, a trouble code will be set to help direct you towards the issue.

Car is in limp in mode unless you have the tools to work on automatic transmission you will need to take it to a transmission shop. Of course you can check oil level but I suspect you have other issues.
