SOURCE: I have a 2004 Ford explorer and the overdrive

Unfortunately, Explorers are notorious for transmission issues. The overdrive light flashing is either the detection of a shorted EPC (Electronic Pressure Controller) or a defective sensor. Bad shifts are a sign of the EPC, while good performance would suggest a bad sensor. I have also seen issues with the valve bodies and torque converters.

You can try removing the electrical connections on the transmission, cleaning them and putting di-electric grease on them, but unfortunately, you will likely have to take a trip to a transmission shop. Swing by an Autozone and have them pull your codes. If the light is flashing, a trouble code will be set to help direct you towards the issue.

SOURCE: my ford focus tdi 2003 cant select 1st,3rd or 5th gears.

Car is in limp in mode unless you have the tools to work on automatic transmission you will need to take it to a transmission shop. Of course you can check oil level but I suspect you have other issues.

That is a typical RPM at that speed for most 6-speed 4 cylinder engines. The reason for this is that they have a much lower power output at lower RPMs (due to lack of torque), and the engineers want for you to have SOME acceleration to get up little hills.

Sounds like the friction surface of the clutch disc is slipping. You would have to install a new clutch (clutch disc, pressure plate, and clutch release bearing), and have the flywheel surface cut and polished back to perfect smooth by a shop.
Manual transmission gears don't slip like automatics. And lack of fluid in the transaxle or the hydraulic clutch system won't cause this either.

96 escort 1.9 manual jerking while accelerating 96 escort 1.9 manual

best advice is dont go 40mph in 5th gear... if you are going up a hill at 40mph in 5th gear i have no doubt that it is jerking, your putting too much stress on the engine. shift up to 4th or 3rd you will be fine. 5th gear is an overdrive gear. 55+mph

If your car lacks power it needs the extra RPMs to push the weight of the vehicle. Most cars idle smoothly at about 700 RPMs. Check the engine compression on all cylinders. If they are all even (within 10lbs) and about 100 psi or more then you may just need a tune up or some work done on the fuel system. Hopefully the engine isn't running hot or has oil control problems which will require some major repairs.

I am assuming your transmission is a 5speed manual. What is the tachometer reading when you experience this jerking in 5th gear? It sounds like the engine is being lugged. If you are trying to pull a hill or accelerate in 5th gear at less than 40 or 45mph, you need to downshift to a lower gear.

My 1995 sentra shifts fine in all gears but when i accelerate in 4th or 5th gear it the rpms wind up and the car doednt real respond feels like its in the accelerater do i need a new clutch

Sounds like the clutch is slipping. If the clutch is bad, it will slip in high gears (4th & 5th) but seem to work fine in lower gears. Clutch probably needs replaced but have a mechanic check it out first because it's a fairly expensive job. If your clutch is actuated via a cable (not hydraulic), it may just need adjusting.

It is a 5 speed manual transmission? If it is noisey in all gears except for 4th, then the problem is countershaft bearings.
