My car was idling and the battery and brake light began to flash on and off; then while driving the car lost power and stopped running. I checked the battery and it was dead so I replaced it with a new one. The next day while I was driving the car lost power and stopped running again. I took it to dealr and they said alternator was bad. They wanted $700.00 to fix. I am going to do it myself fro less. The serontine belt may also be bad or your alternator fuse.

I have the EXACT same problem..I am going to check the alternator fuse..then run an alternator charge test with my volt/ammeter.
I suspect a bad alternator and will not take it to the dealer. It pays to know a good, honest auto mechanic and hope to get it done for less than half of $700

Seems like either the battery is bad or the alternator isn't putting out the correct voltage to it.

I own a nissan maxima 1997 , there is a problem, there is somthng killing my batterie , i checked all teh lights there is noone of them that stay on, my alternator seems to be cahrging good but i found...

The battery should never be disconnected while the motor is running - this can cause excessive voltages to appear on the alternator output.
That in turn could cause destruction of any electronic module on the vehicle, including damage to the alternator itself.
Assuming the electrical system has not been damaged, the cause of your discharge problem is most likely a current drain on the battery when the vehicle is unused.
Check for a drain current from the battery while the vehicle is standing with engine and all electrical system turned OFF -
[ while in this condition, if you don't have a current meter, temporarily connect a small bulb (6-12W) in series with the main battery ground cable - lamp glow indicates current drain - remove fuses, disconnect items to identify current drain],

Also check alterator output voltage (measured across the battery terminals) is approx 14.5V when engine is running and electric system is loaded with headlights or blower fan on.

Car died, starts when jump it and dies again soon as charge drain

Hello dpkommineni: My name is Roger and I will answer your question. The problem you described is that of a car not charging the battery. You need to have the charging system tested. The alternator should charge between 13.5 to 14.5 volts. Anything less then 12.5 the battery will go dead. Since the weather is hot any use of the head lamp and A/C the battery would die fairly fast. I would also have the battery tested. Should the battery have a open cell then it would not take a charge from the alternator.
Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer as this way we can tell you received helpful information. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

Truck wont run

From your brief description I would guess your alternator failed, and when you ran down the battery the truck died. Was there a charge light lit on your dash? Cars will run a long time on just the battery, but when you turn on the lights, wipers, heater and other stuff it drains faster. A jump or a charged battery will confirm if this is true. From there it is back to the basics: fuel, spark, compression.

With more information we can go further.
