Truck runs great thru first two gears right after shifting into third it cuts out to the point of dying, a new fuel filter has been installed. It seems like it won't run on acceration,or when speed reaches 35mph or higher.

Sounds like the car is in "limp in mode". If a major sensor goes out or the computer senses a reoccurring problem for too long, it send the car into "limp in mode". Lose of power, low speed (usually not over 50-55mph) horrible gas mileage, and inability to shift gears.
my van is doing the same exact thing but the othe day it was perfectly fine no slipping i went about 25 miles and i started off from a stop the engine rev and tranny slipped and the van died i restarted the van it runs great but acts as if there is no transmisson does not take power frm ngine when shfted does nothing please help
your vacum leaks has alot to do with it have vacum leaks fixed auto parts store sells the correct size hose you need at a ver fair price fix vacum leaks first then see how it runs after thatcheck fluid level in transmission and change transmission filter
You have a short to ground in the internal wiring harness. The first thru third shifts are done hydralicly. The SMEC then applies a ground to the overdrive solenoid for fourth gear and the TCC solenoid for torque converter lockup.
I have a s40 1.9d / 2000 plate,
In the last month or so the car loses revs when changing up to 3rd and 4th gear, I can only get 50 mph max in 3rd gear 80mp in 4th.
The car has just clocked 185,000 miles
