Question about 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Excessive oil consumption

I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan sxt, 3.8 lit. v6. at around 47,000 miles i had oil changed at dealership and all previous oil changes at dealership. with about a 1,000 left on the oil change oil light came on so i checked oil level and it was 4quarts low. i added 4 quarts and immediately called dealer and they stated bring it in for a free oil change. at that oil change dealership stated pcv valve was clogged causing oil to blow by and out exaust, dealer changed pcv valve at that time. from 47,000 to 50,000 miles engine used or burned 5 quarts of oil. i changed the oil myself at 50,000 and have burned or used 5 quarts of oil in 3000 miles. what is going on and what is my best course of action under the 7 yr. 70,000 mile or 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. please help. also i would have changed the pcv valve myself every 12,000 miles but at auto zone for some unknown reason in the books there is no listing for a pcv valve for 2005 grand caravan, but for every year before and after there is ?

i have the same problem with my 04 Dodge caravan. it was fine and all the sudden at around 40000 miles it started losing a quart a month. the dealer is telling me this is normal and i'm fighting them on this. told them the junkers i had as a teenager didn't burn that much oil.

Take it back where the problem all started. My guess is that your service interval check list that dealer fills out, should have said check or change PCV valve somewhere, and they should know that anyway. My guess is that they forgot to put oil in after draining it, and now want to blame it on you for not changing the PCV valve. You didn't have an oil usage problem prior to oil change, and running an engine for any distance without oil, could certainly cause internal damage like breaking or damaging an oil control ring on a piston, and you have 6 of them. PCV clogged would not cause that much damage that fast. Give them a chance to rectify, otherwise contact Owner relations number in your manual, and see what they say. If your leary about taking back to that dealer, go to next nearest one & explain that a local garage did all this & that, not a dealer, and see what they say about it, and maybe they'll even put it in writing for you, then you have the other dealer where you want him, and approved by another dealer in the same family. Know what I mean? By chance, did you/they save old PCV valve?

Burning 1 qt oil 2007 grand caravan sxt per 1000 miles. changed pcv vale still happenung

Is it really burning it, or just losing it? If you have blue smoke coming out your tail pipe, and oily black spark plugs, there's really not a whole lot you can do about it short of a rebuild of your engine. It really sounds like a rear main seal leak, or a faulty oil filter.

You should never buy any van type vehicle, in the first place,
the transaxle will fail any day.
I used to own a trans repair shop

Other then sell it,I would,I won't ride in one, not safe

Your correct, you should go 5000 miles and maybe use a 1/2 qt,
on most vehicles, none.

So you do a cylinder leak down test
Check Emission Gas Readings,to see what that shows
I suspect a broken oil ring, scored cylinder, broken piston
skirt or serious cylinder head issues.

Never go to a dealer. Calling or Visiting is okey

05 caravan engine oil is going down have to add between oil changes . i don't see any leaks and it doesn't seem to be burning any either is there a reason for concern . if yes is there anything i can do to...

that is not excessive oil consumption, 10,000 KM is about 6,400 miles, 1.5 Liters is about 1.1 quarts, this is excellent, my brand new Dodge Magnum uses more oil than this.
