Question about 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

Electrical problems suspected.

1998 Chevy Cavalier LS 2.2 L sedan. Temperature control fan only works on higher settings. Lights don't light up anymore. Defogger does not thaw, but light turns on. What is the problem? Just bulbs or fuses or more? Secondly, my daytime lamps work, high beams work, but regular headlights don't turn on when engaged. Fog lights and everything else works though. Bulbs have been replaced recently as well. Thirdly, occasionally things like the power doors won't work, my turn signals won't work, ABS light turns on etc. Sometimes restarting the car resets this problem, but its random...I never know when. The cold weather seems to help the turn signals working though. What am I looking to replace or check out, other than buy a whole new car? Is the battery weak...alternator going? What is it? Please help...thanks guys!

1998 chevy cavalier where is the BCM (body control module) located?

Kimberley, 1998 cavalier, BCM is located at the lower left side kick/trim panel, you can have it checked and reprogrammed by a good Tech. as long as they have access to the programming software. Remember the BCM has to be reprogrammed if you change it.
Did you try the security relearn procedure, see 2nd and 3rd link for instructions on relearn procedure. Check the attached links,instruction and guides, Good luck

The gauge/gear/temp control lights do not work. Tail lights are fine. Bulbs are fine, replaced 2 fuses but problem persists, what to do??

The dash lights are on a different fuse and circuit from the tail lights.
If the lights in the instrument cluster work, the problem may be in the harness in the dash.

AC & Rear wiper switch button indicator lights blink

The procedure for re-setting the HVAC control panel on a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan follows:
With ignition on but not running
1. turn knob to air vents
2. turn fan knob to ON
3. temperature setting on COLD (2X) {I have dual temp controls}
4. hold top(rear wiper) and bottom (rear wiper with wash) buttons pressing down together until all the buttons cycle through (this will require 1 to 2 minutes of continuous pressing)
I learned this from a very helpful local Dodge service adviser
