How to replace a fuel filter for a Mitsubishi Mirage 2000

I want to replace the fuel filter in my Mitsubishi Mirage 2000. What steps should I take? Is there pressure in the fuel filter that could cause gas to shoot out while I remove it?

There is pressure...you have to remove the rear seat cushion, then remove the service cover and then detach the fuel pump harness connector.Start the car and allow it to run until the engine stalls.Turn the key to off position. Then disconnect the negative battery cable, attach the fuel pump connector, and install the access cover. Now place shop rags or towels around the fitting that is being disconnected. Loosen the filter feed pipe flare nut on the bottom of the filter.Seperate the flare nut from the filter. If equiped, remove and discard the gakets. remove the mounting bolts and remove the filter.if necessary remove the filter bracket. To install: install the filter to it's bracket only finger tight. Make sure the flow arrow is in the right direction. Make sure new O rings are installed prior to installation. Insert the filter feed pipe to the lower connection of the filter and manually screw in the main pipe's fare nut. While holding the fuel filter nut with a back-up wrench, tighten the banjo bolt to 22 ft pounds and tighten the flare nut to 25 with a back-up wrench on the nut. tighten the filter mounting bolts to 10 ft. pounds. Connect negative battery cable. turn key on to pressurize the fuel system and check for leaks. If repairs on the fuel system are needed remember to release the pressure before opening the fuel system. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Will start and Idle great but when push the gas pedal it just acts and sounds like its bogging down. I have replaced the fuel filter its a 1.5 4cyl automatic

You replaced your fuel filter but have you checked the fuel pressure. It sounds like the fuel pump is not putting out enough pressure to get enough gas to the engine.

I have 2000 mitsubishi mirage. Code P0170 FUEL TRIM MULFUNTION (BANK 1). What does that mean?

Hi,

That code typically comes on due to an air leak, clogged fuel injectors, clogged fuel filter, or even a bad mass air sensor. I have answered other questions from people with similar problems, and some have had luck simply using a fuel injector cleaner with a full tank of premium gasoline. I've had good luck with STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner, available at most auto parts stores. I would also recommend you replace your air filter.

If your light had turned off, there really isn't much any mechanic can do, though you can ask for them to check for any air leaks in your intake system. But if your light comes on again and stays on, the problem probably is with your mass air sensor, and would probably need to be replaced.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

I am having spuddering problems in my 2000 mitsubishi mirage

You say it sputters while ideling? acellrateing. steady high or low speeds? Most of the time sputtering doesn't happen all the time just under load. Worn sparkplugs and bad wires cap and rotor, ( all tuneup parts) cause this and if not tneup regular enought the coil and even the pickups and and computer can be damaged. Hard acellration and only after it getts going can be fuel related fuel filer and air filter ( these are tuneup parts too ) Pump pressure and injectors are not as common untillthe mileage is higher than 100 thou
