john: when i am under the engine and reving on the throttle the belt rotates pretty good...and the noise appears to be coming from the middle upper pulley area...as in the fan clutch pulley bracket area...i stucked my ear right into that area and it appears the noise is stronger in that area....the noise is just like a belt slipping...i will go out and check this easier repair before anhything else...great advice....raymond

john: if it was anything like a frozen pulley the noise would be constant. even when just starting the engine...it has to be the belt because it starts getting noisy when i was the rpm..the belt has to be faulty and slipping...30.00 dollars for belt at pepboys..or 45.99 for the better material one...i fully agree with you...

If its a metal to metal sound more than likely the bearings are going out on pulley replace any pulleys that have any lateral slack or don't spin quietly and smoothly

Replace front drive belts. There comes a time when they get so worn and polished that they just don't grip anymore.

My car makes loud screeching noise when starting.

could be your serpentine belt. usually when they get worn they will start to either slip or cause a very high pitched screeching noise. to verify that is the cause get some water or brake clean in a spray bottle and spray it on to the belt while the vehicle is running. if the noise goes away for a moment you found your cause. if not then its something else. Hope this helps

Engine screeches when running. revving the motor makes it stop momentarily

Could be a belt screeching. Fan belt, A/C belt, Serpentine Belt, alternator belt, etc. Easiest way to isolate which belt is to open the hood and use your ears to see where the screeching is coming from. Left, right, front, behind the engine? Spray some WD-40 on the belt you think is making noise and if it quiets right away, then that is the belt making the noise. Either the tensioner needs adjusting or the belt needs replacing. The WD-40 does not hurt the car, it'll start screeching again in a few days when it wears off.

Turns over but wont crank...horrible screeching noise

To clarify, if the engine cranks or turns over but won't start, look for a stuck pulley on the engine. You may be hearing the belt slipping on that pulley. Take the belt off and try turning each pulley - also try starting the engine with the belt off.

The belts continue to make a loud screeching noises when i drive over 55. Sometimes when the car is idling the belts make noise. Could it be the tension pulley.

it could be the tensioner, water pump, alternator, A/C compressor, power steering, or even a really bad serpentine belt. The only way to be sure is to remove the s-belt and spin-check the pulleys and listen for squeaks or grinding bearings.

Loud screeching noise upon starting

It is your serpentine belt slipping on one of the metal pulleys and the friction is causing the high pitch screech. The belt may need to be tightened or replaced, which is an easy fix.

1999 neon making a loud screeching noise under hood passenger side

It sounds like you have a belt or pulley problem, or possibly a bad bearing in the alternator, or water pump. I would suggest, having it looked at, by a mechanic right away.

I have a 1990 jeep YJ replaced the alternator and now there is a loud screeching noise replaced the belt, replaced new bearing in idler pulley still makes a loud screeching noise?

If the belt is not tense enough it will squeal, so make sure it's tight enough. Otherwise you can use a stethoscope or long screwdriver up to your ear to isolate the source of the noise.

My serpintine belt started making a loud screeching noise, and eventually slipped off. I got it put back on but its still making a screeching noise. All of this started after i got the AC compressor fixed....

One of the belt pulleys likely has a bad bearing. watch the pulleys for binding while it's running or remove the belt and check each pulley by hand. AC puts more strain on the belt...if the belt is not new and pulleys check out, (and tensioner is working properly) change the belt.
