Question about 1995 Nissan Pathfinder

I tried to push another car with my 95 pathfinder, and now I am slowly leaking antifreeze. The radiator is full,...but the overflow is empty. I did go over the cars rear bumper when trying to push. Snow blizzard in buffalo. What can be damaged in the front 2ft of undercareage having to do with antifreeze?

When I checked antifreeze levels in radiator,...not bad,..could still see fluid,..only needed less than 1/4 of 50/50 to level off,...so a very slow leak. None on pavement next morning,...when started and let run,...slowly antifreeze leaked from left front side under radiator,....near small silver cylinder thing I am assuming attaches somehow. It has a metal tube under it. I was able to drive truck with temp rising slightly. Temp in buffalo is in teens,...could it be freezing leak off when not running it? Any idea where it could be coming from? Thanx :0)

Could have just wiggled bottom hose a little loose, or drain, lets hope it didn't crack the tank seal on the rad. You'll have to get a closer look before you'll know for sure. Good guys take it on the chin again eh !!

I'm guessing its your drain for your rad, or the lower hose fitting on the rad. Either way it might be fixable. How big of a diameter would you say this fitting or tube your describing is ? Just for clarification, you didn't push that other vehicle too long/far did you? Buffalo? I'm about 40 or 50 miles west of you on Lake Erie, in Ontario Canada. Yes it is cool, windy & a little snow blowing around at this time. Check coolant return bottle level often, when cool & before you go somewhere & top it up until you have it looked at closely.

Radiator doesn't have a cap the system uses the cap on the overflow tank.

95 ford probe car runs ok but blows whitish blue smoke as accelerate

That is probably the head gasket leaking. White smoke is from antifreeze going through the exhaust. The engine compression is pushing the water out of the radiator.

look close on the top of the radiator they crack there. and the other thing you can do is put a piece of card board under the front and run the car and see where it leaks

My sunfire overheats and leaks out overflow everytime i drivee it.i changed water pump, thermostat the fan is working fine and had a water pressure test done last mth

DID YOU BLEED AIR OUT THE COOLANT SYSTEM.TO BLEED COOLANT SYSTEM, FILL THE COOLANT SYSTEM THROUGH THE RESERVOIR TANK OR THE RADIATOR UNTIL THE FULL COLD MARK IS REACHED.BESURE TO USE 50/50 HALF WATER AND ANTIFREEZE.YOU CAN BUY ANTIFREEZE THAT IS ALREADY PREMIX 50/50.AFTER ADDING ANTIFREEZE TO RESERVOIR OR RADIATOR FILL RADIATOR TO FULL MARK OR IF YOU DONT HAVE RADIATOR CAP ON RADIATOR POUR ANTIFREEZE IN THE OVERFLOW JUG UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL STAY THE FULL COLD MARK.WAIT AWHILE UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL STOP DROPPING.NOW INSTALL THE RADIATOR OR OVER FLOW JUG CAP.START THE ENGINE AND ALLOW IT TO RUN UNTIL NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE IS REACHED AND THE UPPER RADIATOR HOSE BECOME HOT.STOP THE ENGINE AND OBSERVE THE COOLANT LEVEL IN THE OVERFLOW JUG. THE COOLANT LEVEL SHOULD BE AT THE FULL HOT LINE.ALLOW THE ENGINE TO COOL UNTIL THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE IS REACHED THEN CHECK THE COOLANT LEVEL IT SHOULD BE AT OR ABOVE THE FULL COLD LINE.ADD MORE COOLANT IF NECESSARY. WARNING BECAREFUL WHEN OPEN THE RADIATOR CAP OR JUG OVER FLOW CAP.USE A LARGE RAG OVER THE RADIATOR CAP TO KEEP FROM GETTING SCALDED.OPEN RADIATOR CAP A LITTLE AT A TIME TO KEEP FROM GETTING SCALDED.WAIT UNTIL ENGINE COOL DOWN BEFORE OPENING RADIATOR CAP OR OVERFLOW JUG CAP.WEAR SAFETY GLASSES.

Over heating

Try checking your antifreeze levels. If you antifreeze tank is low try filling it to the "Fill" or "Full" level. If your antifreeze tank is empty, remove your radiator cap, (make sure the engine has cooled off. If you try to open it while it's hot, you could get sprayed with hot antifreeze) and fill the radiator slowly. Then refill your antifreeze tank. Remember to always mix the antifreeze with water (50/50 mix) for full protection.

Antifreeze pushing cap on over flow resivore and low heat .Could this be a leaking head gasket? antifreeze not draining back out reservoir

It sounds like you need a new Radiator cap for the overflow style Radiator. The overflow style has a recovery vent which draws the water back through the radiator neck and into the engine. Low heat levels are also a sign of a water shortage.

Your antifreeze strength needs to be 50/50. This sounds like there is an ice block inside the Radiator or engine. Get the strength of the antifreeze tested.

You could have an internal leak; you need to have the system pressure tested. The overflow tank should drain back into the radiator and it relies on a sealed system to work. If you have a leak, there will be no Vacuum pressure to draw the antifreeze back into the engine.

It could be a head gasket leak, or a leaking heater core, or bad radiator or a bad hose. The pressure test can be done by anyone with a gauge. You could try Autozone or Oreillys for their loaner tools. Ask for a Radiator tester pump. You can also have the cap checked.

Radiator and A/C shops do this test routinely. A real Service station used to do this routinely until they went self-serve.

I hope my solutions give you a few alternatives because a head gasket is a costly repair. I hope you find my solutions very helpful.

I have a puddle of anti freeze on the ground in front of my pathfinder

There are many places antifreeze can leak from. You are going to need to investigate to try and locate where the leak is originating from. It may be a radiator hose, the radiator itself, the thermostat gasket or even the overflow hose from your overflow tank. Once you think you have determined the approximate location you can repost back here for more assistance.

While in my way home, I noticed sudden rise of engine temperature. The radiator water is empty.I noticed that the engine radiator has cracks arount the clipping metal. I brought my car to the nearest...

It is normal for some antifreeze move into the overflow tank when the engine cools down after it is shutoff and draw the antifreeze back into the engine when it is warmup, but if it is push antifreeze into the overflow tank and overflowing the tank then most likely the cylinder head is cracked or the headgasket is blown. You can take it to a automotive shop and have them check for hydrocarbons (exhaust gases) in the radiator.

Good luck

2006 pathfinder heater goes from hot to cold the coolant is not low !

This issue may be due to a restricted radiator. The engine heats up but can not flow through the radiator fast enough and pushes the coolant into the overflow until it runs over. Then the engine draws coolant back in showing a low condition.

My suggestion is to check the radiator with an electronic tool for checking temperature. If the temperature is 180 - 200 on the upper hose and 75 - 95 on the lower hose then the radiator needs to be replaced.

A faulty thermostat (stuck open) would not heat up.

A faulty thermostat (stuck closed) would not cool down, but would push coolant out of the overflow tank.

If the vehicle has white smoke (actually steam) coming from the tail pipe, then you most likely have a blown head gasket.
