No noise, no smells. While driving it will just quit. Had the crankshaft sensor changed which is what the computer said to do...no change. After about 20 minutes it will start again..then may or may not run for a while.

  • bhmom18 Dec 22, 2008

The problem started before the sensor was installed. It was towed to my mechanic who said the code on the computer said it needed the sensor. Unfortunately my mechanic put a new senor on even though the old one tested okay. The problem continues.

    Thanks

Yes, probably a computer problem but how does heat fit in?

My Santa Fe while driving seems like it feeds for fuel and jerks and when you slow down or stop at a big intersection with stop lights it will die. It will start and may or may not go very far. I been having my problem for three weeks after i replaced my starter. I had it put on a machine and it said to replace my cam shaft position sensor and that still wasn't the problem i am back to square one. I had everything possible checked and couldn't find the problem. I had someone put that sensor in and that didn't work. I had my fuel pump, filters, my fuel housing, battery, exhaust, catalytic converter, gas lines, spark plugs and gas tank and none of that was a problem.

my santa fe just cuts out then after a few minutes it will start again. then the check engine light stays on, after a couple of journeys the light goes out, until the car cuts out again. what could be the cause?

I had the same problem as "jesscomp57"...
After weeks of my truck turning off while driving and then the check engine light going on...I went to AutoZone and they gave me a code and I was told it was the Crankshaft position sensor...

I would like to fix this myself but I was wondering if anyone had a picture of this make and model of where the sensor is located at?

Did you start having this problem when the sensor was installed?

If you wait about twenty minutes for it to start again it seems like something has to cool down before it will continue to run

I helped jesscomp57 fix her problem she was having. It seems that she had her starter changed and the person who did it messed up the connection to her cam shaft position sensor and didnt know it. The vehicle ran but would spit and spudder ever now and again. After having the car tested the diagnostics showed the replace the cam shaft position sensor which we did. The car would hardly stay started for more that 10 seconds. After tearing most of the car down and not fixing the problem we started at square one and when we took the connector off the sensor I noticed that one of the three prongs inside was not out as far as the other two. Once I corrected the prong and reconnected the car has not stalled. I even put tie straps on to make sure that the connection would not break again.

Also what you might want to do is test the battery ground and check the wiring to look for shorts or see if there is a bad connection. Maybe around the exhaust? When my bronco did this it was a ground from my battery.

Yes. Your Local Auto Parts Store should Carry these as Direct Replacements. If Not, Sears Carries them.

2003 Hyundai Santa Fe Lost power now won't start

Sounds like the timming belt jumped or broke. A faulty crank sensor could also be at fault.

When asking a question about a problem with your vehicle you should always state your vehicles od reading and engine size, thanks.
