How does one change spark plugs on a VW Cabrio? The spark plugs seem to be located in a very hard to reach location.
Thanks.

I have 1998 vw cabrio just did a tune up runs great in idle put in drive car dies at 20mph can get car to 45 mph but very slowly why?

sounds like either the spark plugs weren't gapped right or the wires are in the wrong locations.
Google search the firing order and check the wires/loactions first, then if they are correct, have a look at the spark plug gaps.

Changing spark plugs and spark plug wires on a 4 cyl. 1998 Jetta

the only way to remove the wires is to take the intake off.Its not that hard mine has 250,000 on it and it comes apart fine. But you need some special sockets and then it would even out if you paid somebody capable to do it for you. the plugs can be changed I use a swivel socket and a extension. The distributor should be fine I assume you meant the cap and rotor, that is easy but the clips that hold it down can be tricky to but back on. If it looks too difficult or scares you dont do it.

I recommend taking apart the intake and cleaning it thouroughly, including the vacuum hoses from the valve cover to the intake hose. I had a very similar problem and it cured mine wonderfully. It took me about 3 hours to dissasemble and clean everything with carb cleaner and re-install it all. For clarity, I took off everything from the airbox to the intake of the engine, including the large aluminum air duct that covers the top of the engine and exposes the spark plugs. Which is a great time to change plugs and wires by the way.

Good luck.

Spark Plugs Location

They're accessible through the top of the engine - open the hood and the spark plug wires should be very easily visible on top of the valve cover. Pluck them out and the plugs are below.
