Question about 1993 Lexus Es 300
Daughter's car died last night. Wouldn't start this morning. I jumped it and started fine. When i apply the brakes, engine runs rough, abs light comes on, tach goes to zero and i cant get it out of park. (seems as though something is shorting out). If i leave the jumper cables hooked up everything seems to work fine. Although, when i put it in gear, i notice the engine actually lifts in the engine compartment. (engine mounts ??). Over 200,000 miles, need to get through on more kid before getting rid of it.
It sounds like you may have a bad alternator, when your jumpers are hooked up, it has proper juice to run the accessories, but when you disconnect the jumpers the car is running on what little juice the battery has. The engine moving around, yes it very well may be the mounts, but that would not cause it to die like it is. When you step on your brake petal, it iluminates the brake lights, taking more juice from the battery. If you remove the alternator and bring it to any advance auto or autozone, they can test it for you for free, to tell if it needs replacing or not. Also check the fusable link located in the fuse compartment under the hood, and make sure that's good.
Hope this helps!
