Antilock brake light on & off

Over the last year after having my emergency brake adjusted the ABS light comes on, goes off & then comes on and stays on after I touch the brake pedal. Somes days I can drive 2-3 miles before it comes on. Not using any brake fluid thru all this. Brakes are great, will throw you the windshield if your not used to it. It has a 2.9L engine.

At one time I owned 5 Bronco II (86-87-88) and I experienced the same light on-off problem. Since braking occurs 85% with the front wheels I disabled the rear ABS by unplugging the the module on the side panel behind the driver's seat. I have noticed no difference in the car's braking ability. [email protected]

SOURCE: ABS braking

have you check? the master cylinder. sometine when you get the rotors cut they dont come out right because they may be warped or to thin. if you did the job yourself you might have put the calipers in on the wrong side. this happens alot . if your rotors front and rear are fine then switch the calipers to the other side.

SOURCE: abs brake warning light comes on and rear brakes remain stuck on

I would bypass abs contraption with new line.(87 dually) abs located under drivers side cab looks very susceptible and is known to fail.I would trust my foot before that old thing.Im rippin it out of my truck & replacing it with new line all the way back.Old lines rusted pretty bad.Better safe than sorry.unplug light bulb or just leave it in .Jersey cant say anything if its 94 or older at inspection.that goes for all the lights. For me,older is better.I dont know what setup you have or if you sold it, you could try replacing it for about 160 at advanced.I hope its not the computer screwin up,thats probably a dealer item.Try unpluging hydraulic unit for shits & giggles.Go over rear brakes again before you start cutting.

How do you switch off A BSon a stepway 2018 model where is the switch?

There is no "switch" to turn off the ABS light... The light is on for a reason, to tell you there is a problem with the Antilock Breaking System... You need to have the computer scanned to see what codes it's throwing so you know what to fix. After you fix it, you reset the light (turn it off) by disconnecting the battery for a couple minutes. If you reset the light without fixing the problem, the light will come back on.

And if you don't fix the ABS, just be more careful when driving as if you have to stop quick, you car will break differently without the antilock system.

Here's some more info...

If the warning light comes on while you are driving, it means the ABS is not working properly. Your brakes will still work, but the ABS might not engage if you need to make an emergency stop. ... If both the ABS and brake system light come on at the same time, your vehicle is no longer safe to drive.

New hub and abs light come on when turning or hit bumps

The brake sensors. Cars with antilock brakes have an amber or yellow warning light, which usually says ABS. If this light stays illuminated after the bulb check, it indicates a problem with the antilock braking system. The ABS controller will disable the system and your brakes should function as if you don't have ABS. In this case, you can safely drive the car to a mechanic for service.

My dashboard lights (battery emergency brake light & air bags) are flashing on my dashboard while driving but go out when I come to a stop on my 2001 santa fe

Whenever this warning light or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating that the systems control module (or the system sensor in the case of lights like low oil pressure, door open indicators etc.) has detected a fault, it then disables the system (this applies to ABS,TCS, TCM, SRS and BCM faults and others) as long as the light is on. You must now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool and "scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for the problem(s)

Legend of Abbreviations. ABS Antilock brake system.TCS Traction control system, TCM Transmission control module, SRS Supplemental restraint system, BCM Body control module

My ABS ligth stays on but my brakes work fine.

The ABS system is related to emergency stopping, not normal brake use, where you don't want the tires to lock-up when the brakes are hit very hard. ABS stands for Antilock Brake System. When the ABS light is on, the ABS system is not active. This means the ABS will not be Antilock when you need it. This does not mean you don't have brakes. The brakes you have are normal brakes without the added feature of antilock.

The light is on because a system fault has been detected. Most of the time this is a wheel speed sensor that has failed. Basically the system works by having 4 wheel speed sensors connected to a control unit. The control unit determines how much braking presure each wheel needs according to how much pedal presure you are applying, related to the vehicle speed, and the rotation speed of each wheel. If one wheel is spinning slower than the others that would mean it is locking up (less braking efficientcy) and the control unit then reduces the presure applied to that wheel so it doesn't lock up.

If a wheel speed sensor goes bad the entire system can't function so it shuts down and it is now a regular braking system. This means that it will work and feel fine to you, the operator. But in an emergancy, the ABS will not function and the brakes may lock up which is not as efficient as ABS.

I recommend you get it scanned for codes and find out what is wrong. It is a great safty feature that I think you are better off with, than without.

Some auto parts stores will scan your car for codes for free, like autozone and others. Call around and find that free scan. Then take it to a reputable shop, dealer, or your brother-in-law who is a master mechanic.

Good luck, and be safe!

My ABS light and emergency brake light comes on everytime I start my Ford Windstar, and they stay on when I'm driving around, even though my brakes are not on. Anyone have any idea what this means?

I think it means the Antilock Brake System is disengaged. So, a code has been stored in the abs computer. Standard obd tester cannot check these codes, must visit your dealer or some autoshop with ABS reader.

According with the service manual: During starting the RED brake light should briefly come on and then go off. If the RED light stays on, it indicates a problem in the main braking system, such as a low fluid level, or the parking brake is still on.

Hope helps (remember to rate and comment this).

2006 Town & Country ABS light stays on

when the abs light comes on your car is letting you know that it has shut down the abs system because of a problem. so you are braking with regular conventional brakes which is perfectly safe. any time a component of the antilock brake system malfuntions the abs system is shut off and the light will come on to let you know. the most common problem is that the wheel speed sensors go bad. a trouble code will be stored in the abs control module you can have the abs module scanned to see what the problem may be. But dont worry you car is safe to drive. you just dont have the antilock brake option.

The abs light remains on

are all the tires same size. Inflated to the same PSI. How did you check the sensors, Did you ohm them. they should be the same. Still did you drive the car to make sure all the sensors still read the same as you speed up. You need a scanner for this. When you clear the light does it come on right away before you roll. If so you prabably need to get the control module rebuilt. If it comes on after you start rolling then its most likely a sensor.
