Question about 1996 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

Starting problems Turn the ignition key, here a loud click, but engine does not turn over. Try this several times. Then the engine will turn to turn over (maybe 2 seconds). Then on the next try it turns over and starts. Turn car off. Try to restart. same problem. I do notice that when the car has been running for 15 minutes or longer no problem on restart. But let it set for 30 minutes, same problem.

Well check out the batter and connnections on the battery. All were good. I am going to check the negative post to see if loose or bad connection at that point.

    Appreciate any other pointers.

    Thanks

What kind of weather are you in right now, or since problem started? Make sure if you can, that small wire to solenoid at starter is clean & tight too.

Your ignition switch is going bad. The strange noise is the starter remaining engaged and locked to the flywheel. Your best bet is to have the starter tested at your local auto parts store, to deduce that it is not, in fact, your starter.

'95 rodeo cant turn the key, the key is not stuck, the cylinder is

Try turning the steering wheel while trying to turn the ignition. Didn't work? Can you remove the key? Use some WD40 with the tube and spray a little in. Put the key in, pull it out, repeat several times. Put the key in and wiggle the ignition lock back and forth.(try while wiggling the steering wheel back and forth, too.) Still won't move? Try pulling the key out just a small fraction of an inch and try turning the ignition.

Still no solution, time to give up and call a locksmith.

Hard starting, excessive crank time

try changing the fuel filter and turn the key on and off several times before starting engine. once running check the vaccum line on the fuel pressure regulator.the regulator can leak fuel from that connection.

Car will not crank sometimes unless you turn the key many times.

Check battery connections. Sometimes a weak connection will fail under very high loads like starting.

1999 Toyota Corolla CE. For about 2 months, the engine does not start immediately. I need to turn the ignition key several times until it starts. Each time when I turn the key, a clicking sound happens...

it sounds like either your having a short at the starter or the ignition switch is bad, I am leaning towards the issue being the starter, usually when the ignition switch is going bad there will be no click,
