Question about 1995 GMC Suburban

1 Answer

95 GMC pick up usually runs good, but the last 2 days it will die and seems to take more cranking to start it. I'm guessing fuel pump, but not sure. If it is the fuel pump is it in the tank? what is involved?

Start with changing filter(fuel). Have you changed gas stations lately? Is it cold where you are. (gasline antifreeze or "Heet")

GMC 2000 sierra pick up 1500 sounds like it wants to start but won't turn over. Battery sounds good so I guess battery and alternator are ok. For several years fuel gauge doesn't work and...

It sure could be. But, first...by "won't turn over" you do mean it cranks at normal speed but won't start?
A simple test of the fuel pump is to stand by tank and listen as someone turns key to on. When first turned to on, your pump will activate for 2 or 3 seconds, pressurizing the fuel system, and then shut off if the engine computer doesn't get a cranking signal. Do you hear it come on? If not, then something's not turning your pump on. If you can hear it buzz on briefly, then maybe it's your filter. Another test: Spray a little starting fluid into your intake manifold (remove the big hose going into intake manifold) while someone tries starting it.If it doesn't fire and try to stay running, then it's probably an ignition problem. But if it does fire off, then you know it's a fuel problem-likely your pump or filter. good luck.

2000 GMC Jimmy, starts up every time, but only runs for 10 seconds then dies. Restarts every time but will not stay running. Replaced fuel pump, fuel filter, CAM position sensor, crank position sensor,...

you say fuel pressure is good, but what is it? what is the fuel pressure when it stalls out? Spec is 60-66 psi and it wont run if its 55 psi. the fuel pump relay should be good if the pump runs. Make sure the ground for the pump is good , G402 should be on left frame rail. you may have had it off to replace the pump? maybe? it may be time to stop guessing and have a repair shop diagnose it for you. You sure have replaced a lot of good parts.

Dodge 600 ES turbo convertable: engine died for no apparent reaso

hi,
yes my first guess would be the pump most likely its time for a new electric fuel pump. its in the gas tank and It takes a whole day to do it but its pretty straightforward once you get the fuel tank down. spray the fuel tank bolts with wd-40 or equivalent and let it just sit for an hour and work. the fuel tank bolts will be the hardest part. have a fire extinguisher there and the garden hose close, disconnect the battery first. if you get stuck write me back. dont turn that specific engine over for extended periods of time while its not running, the turbochargers are persnikedy and fragile when they get that old and need oil pressure to keep their bearings cool, make sure you have it all back together and ready to start before you do, avoid unnecessary turning over of the engine without it firing.. good luck

good luck on it

Can Fuel pressure cause no spark in a 1997 GMC Sierra? I replaced the fuel pump. drove 30kms and it died. I have no spark. Any ideas for this?

Do you still have fuel pump pressure? Is there fuel getting to the cylinders? If all the fuses are good, then replace the crankshaft sensor.

No start-95 safari

Could be fuel pump, is the pump running when you turn key on, you should be able to hear it. You are likely going to have to take it to someone with a pressure gauge to make sure it is getting proper fuel pressure. Fuel pumps commonly go on these vehicles

Difficult starting in warm weather

Check the vacuum hose attached to the fuel pressure regulator under the hood next to your intake pull it off and see if any fuel is present, if there is replace regulator.you may have to tap hose with your finger to get any fuel out or start vehicle run until hot then shut off and recheck if no fuel present in vacuum line let me know and we can try something else.

1997 GMC K1500 4x4 5.7 ex.cab SFI injection system

Hey there boatright33,

A few things things immediately come to mind.

There may be a problem with the engine controller. You could check the ODBII onboard diagnostics. Auto part stores will usually do this for you at no cost.

When you pulled the ones that were/went bad, how did the filters look? Could there be particulate matter still in the tank causing them to fail.

I always put this one off until last. Check the injectors. Are they gummed up?

Let me know what you find out

fuel pump died replaced it truck ran poorly afterwards. Had a prussuer test done pump determend pump was no good. Put in another ran good for 2 days started running poorly hard to start no power. 2nd fuel pump. So i figure another bad new fuel pump wow changed it put in a third brand new fuel pump. Still will not eve start now. I had it tuned up 2 months ago new plugs rotor, cap, etc. put in a new fuel filter made sure it is on proper checked all connections for leaks. this cannot be a fuel pump problem now. no problem with the elctrical i figure i have great spark on ignition tester. I can hear the fuel pump prime when i turn the key. but when i went and checked the fuel port i had no pressure. When it is being cranked gas sews out of the test port. Also i dont if this is comon cause i used to turn my keyand go. but when i have someone turn the key and i listen at the gas tank whn the key is shut off i hear gs spraying back into the gas tank. So i am open for opinions.
