Since I don't have a pressure gauge, I thought I would replace the fuel filter since this was my moms car and we don't know how long it's been since it was changed. I mentioned the problem to the guy at the parts store when buying the filter and he said it was probably the Air Charge Temp. Sensor. I replaced it first and it did the trick.

Check the fuel prssure when this problem arises you should have 35 to40 psi with the key in the run postion and should hold steady. if it dose not you may have a problem with the pump holding line pressure. i would also look to see if you are getting a voltage singal to the pump when the key is truned to the run postion you should see battery voltage for at least 15 seconds our more. good luck let me know if i can help fruther

Was sitting with car in drive started to pull off and motor just quit completely. What could be the problem, rule out battery, starter?

Does the car still have battery power? Will the engine still crank? If so, I'm almost positive you can rule out the battery and the starter. If the answer is yes, the engine will still crank you need to do some trouble shooting. Does the engine have spark at the plugs when you crank the engine, is the engine getting fuel when you are cranking, and does the engine have compression when you are cranking.

CRANKING NOT STARTING

Sounds like either the fuel filter or the catalytic converter. You will need to check the back pressure of the exahust and the fuel pressure after it fails. This I say because you did not mention any trouble codes.(check engine light on or flashing)

2000 olds 3.5 Dohc. Changed fuel filter checked fuel pressure @40 lbs resting cranking 45 lbs When i try and start it in the morning indoors won't fire crank the key to acc then on then back to acc then...

Which is the problem, no fire, or no crank. No fire means to spark to engine, but engine turns over fine. No crank means engine won't turn over when key is turned. I'm assuming engine will not turn over. Three most common problems. 1. Weak battery (get tested at auto parts store). Will hold charge for short time once started, but loses it when sits overnight. 2. Bad starter. Possible but not likely, still not out of the question. 3. Bad battery cables. This is an easy test. Take a pair of jumper cables and bypass the battery cables by connecting black side of jumper cable to "-" of battery and block of engine, and red of jumper cables to "+" of battery and (tap) Battery terminal post on starter...engine should turn over. Ensure you take all safety precautions to prevent car from moving during this procedure. Best of luck resolving this problem.

Starter 97 Oldsmobile achieva

I doubt it.
If the engine is cranking, the starter is working.
If the engine will not start, you need to know if you have spark at the plugs, fuel pressure at the injectors, and normal compression.

Starting problems

If you turn the key and you hear the starter cranking the engine but the engine will not start than you need to see if you are missing fuel or spark as a first step. If you turn the key and you can not hear the starter turn the engine over than the first step is to check to make sure there is power on the small wire at the starter with the key in the crank position. If there is power replace the starter.

Our car starts right up in the morning just fine. The rest of the day in and out of car it has trouble starting. What could it be?

If battery and connections are good (it's a big draw, different then other components).Because a bad connection or old battery can sometimes work the starter after it sits, doesn't make it .Some times a starter has a bad spot, thats whe you see some one get under and directly jump it.If buying a battery get at least recommended cranking amp size battery,Larger auto stores check battery no charge (bad joke). Its free google /bing who does a free battery test.Auto zons, pep boys, sears.May even be running a sale. Most switch out battery for fee (no charge*),*Hopefully you will laugh later.

Have a '94 S-10 Blazer Tahoe 4X4 and it starts

My suspicion is a starter going bad. Sometimes when starters get old and worn they will start good when the engine is cold but not when the engine is warmed up. Did you perhaps notice that lately is seemed to drag when you tried starting, especially warm or it seemed to crank a little slower? I'd replace the starter. Hope this helps.

Check, clean and tight correctly the battery leads. If the problem still occurs remove the electrical starter motor out from the engine, repair it (change carbon brushes, bearings, ...) and install it back in place. Then test the engine. It should cranking & start immediately.
Good Luck!

I have a 2001 IS 300 with 160,000 mi. I was having trouble starting the car in the morning where it would take 2 or 3 tries to get it to turn over. It is in a garage in California, so not in extreme cold....

try if this works\improves your situation;

turn the key to ON but don't crank, let it sit for 2 seconds. Do this 2-3 times, then put it in the ON position, wait 2 seconds then crank. As for what it is, could be spark plugs, fuel pump\line issue, etc..
