Question about 2002 Saturn VUE

1 Answer

2002 Saturn Vue starts when it wants to. We replaced the fuel filter and it seemed to work for about 2 weeks then I got stranded again. I've heard several things from the battery, spark plugs, crank censor to the fuel pump. What could it be?!

So you don't think it's the censor? I've been able to fill it up, actually just filled it completely before it acted up.

I know this is the last thing you want to hear, but if you have a check engine light on you need to scan to get the trouble code. The only thing I can think of is that when you filled up you may have filled up too far and gotten alot of fuel into the evap canister. I know this sounds funny, but if you keep filling the tank up all the way till it's almost coming out you may been inadvertantly getting fuel into the evap canister. You won't know this for sure until you scan it though. This is usually a problem after continuous filling up past the "auto stop". In other words.... When pump stops. Stop pumping. I really hope this helps. This is all I can come up with without actually seeing the car.

2003 saturn vue: engine shut off while driving; tried to restart. Starter and motor turned but would not restart. 1 hour later started and drove it. This is second time in 3 weeks. What could it be?

it could be the ignition or fuel system's failure. but most cases to this kind of trouble it has failure to their igniter( ignition coil).

My Saturn Vue would not start and I was told it was the fuel pump and that a computer diagnostic showed a weak security module. Both have been replaced. I drove the Vue several days on a trip and it ran...

If it won't start the best way to find out why. Is to first find out if it is a fuel problem or a ignition problem. Without using many tools the first thing to do is when this problem happens again, poor little gas down the intake manifold or throttle body. Now try starting it, if it starts you most likely have a fuel problem. See if you can hear the fuel pump a running, check for fuel pressure at the fuel rail, then check relays. Now if it doesn't start, you probably have a ignition problem. Use a test light and check for power at the coil or coil's. If you have no power check ignition switch or anti theft devices. If you do have power check for spark. Good luck with it.

Where is the fuel filter on a 2004 saturn vue 3.5L? The car quit running this morning, tried to start back up but stalled again. Starts with starter fluid, but stalls. Dealer said try the fuel filter...

It is part of the fuel pump module inside the fuel tank, all the cars are starting to use this type of setup, the filter is only serviced when the fuel pump fails.

2004 Vue 4 cylinder stick, 104,000 miles. Stalls at hwy speed or in city & check engine lights come on. The car will restatrt and runs fine, but this happens every week or so. Is this an accelerator...

Good chance that the fuel filter may be getting to the end of it's life and needs to be replaced. Start with the simple, a dirty and clogged fuel filter will not have a DTC code or a bad fuel pump. Replace the fuel filter and check your fuel pressure to ensure your fuel pump can still provide the proper fuel pressure. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help you get your car running 100% again soon.

Ok i got a 2002 saturn vue..code was saying bank 1 bank 2 running lean..the vue runs perfect ,sometime at park it would idle hi.anyways i have replaced the mass air flow unit..turn off light, comes back on...

I had exactly the same problem .Mine was corrected with replacing the O2 sensors .The sensors cost less than $30 each but cost about 20 mins labor per sensor .So if you got an honest mechanic the total cost will be around $130 .

2002 Saturn Vue won't start

Non-start situations basically boil down to two things: No Fuel, or no spark.

I you are looking to throw a part at it, start with the crank sensor. They are cheap and not too hard to replace.

A full diagnostic approach would be to determine if it was a fuel or a spark problem. Check fuel pressures with a fuel pressure test guage: Low fuel pressure indicates a bad fuel pump or a bad fuel presssure regulator. Lastly on the fuel side, check t see if the injectors are getting a signal to fire, usually done with something called a noid light, I believe.

Spark diagnosis begins with first determining the condition, then finding the cause. Bad coil, loose wires, even the crank sensor are all suspect. A good repair manual with a flow chart is probably the best procedure to follow.

In my case, my manual only had a passing reference to the crank sensor and no diagnostic procedure to test it or even lead me to it. I found the solution through extensive web searches. Once I replaced it, all was well.
