My Camry overheated 1 mile from home. I allowed it to cool off in my driveway. Started up 1 hour later to shuffle cars in driveway. The following days it refuses to start...plenty of gas, put water in radiator. I hear suggestions that the distributor cap (or equivalent) maybe wet or plugs maybe bad. But if the spark plugs are the problem, wouldn't it probably start, but run rough as probably not all plugs would go bad at once??

I was an ASE master auto tech for 13yrs and have seen this problem before. It sounds like the idle air control valve on the intake manifold has stopped working and the idle speed is not being controlled(letting the engine idle too slow which causes a stall when put under a load such as putting it in gear). Try giving it a little throttle while putting it in gear if that works let off the throttle if it dies you will know the Idle Air controll is not working.

Make sure you don't have a faulty fuel injector, this may be the cause, also use a can of carb spray and spray around the intake gasket to check for leaks, if one is present you will notice a diff in the engine sound when the spray hits it.

Rule 1 ....WD40 is non-flammable. It used to be an effective starter spray for diesels. Unfortunately it now contains a fire retardant to prevent accidents....so the rev you were looking for wont arrive.
It does work well with easy-start/ether though.
I suspect you found a vacuum leak and sucked WD40 into the intake....If u think u did you'll need to clean your plugs.
A strobe lamp to check the spark would be a good idea. Also if a lil squirt (VERY LITTLE) of easy start doesnt produce at least a backfire, your spark is out.

If the a/c is on then both fans should be running. If the fans are not running then have your mechanic check the fan relay. Each fan has its own relay. I would also have the thermostat changed. When the engine overheated it most likely damaged the old one. Give these a try and good luck.
