How do i fix a misfire on a 1996 suburban

Hi Yvonne, I'm glad to help!

The first step when you have a misfire is to see what is causing the misfire. Technicians always rules out mechanical failures before moving on too Electrical issues. What you need to do is check compression on cylinder 2 and see if its good. Remove the spark plug and test it with a compression tester. It should read somewhere around 150 PSI or more. Check it to cylinder 4 and make sure the reading are close they must be within 25 %. If the compression is GOOD then you'll need to move to the electrical checks. Here's how you rule out parts. It doesn't matter if you have plug wires or coil-on-plug. SWAP the parts from cylinder 2 to cylinder 4 and start the engine and if the misfire moves from 2 to 4 then you know its either the spark plug the spark plug wire or the coil pack if you have a coil instead of a plug wire. If the misfire does not move and stays in cylinder 2 then it could be an INJECTOR, WIRING ISSUES, COMPUTER DRIVER. As you see Yvonne it can be a lot of things that can cause a misfire. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Yvonne.

Really worried about this basically a Clio 56 1.4 16v car has registered as random multiple mis-fire with an OBD code of p0300 Change spark plugs didnt change anything so think it might be the coil pack...

I have a malibu 3.1 and it idles very good at about 650 rpms, when warm. it sounds like your problem may be a bad coil. a multible misfire can be-- wires, coils, vacuum leak in a hose. but change fuel filter and check the coils one may be bad. i think at auto zone they are a reasonable cost. GOOD-LUCK!

Replaced the MAF sensor - nothing. Took it to a authorized toyota shop & checked compression which check out good and put the computer on. Computer read mis-fire on cylinder 1, and then multiple misfire (like it would jump around). We went ahead and replaced the fuel injector on cylnder 1 - did not solve problem as when we hook the computer up, misfire seemed tp stay at idle and seem better when running high RMP, but check engine light is on as it never went away. Went ahead and replaced the coil pack to cylinder 1 - nothing. what am i missing?

Check the plug wires for those 2 cylinders, next check the injectors, as they can cause misfire when defective.

Car sparking on all 4 clynders

If the plugs are not wet, you have a fuel problem. Check the fuel pressure, if low, the system is unable to purge itself and the last two injectors on the fuel rail are vapor-locked. If the fuel pressure is low you probably have a problem in the tank. There is a flexible line connecting the fuel pump to the steel line that may have a rupture causing the low pressure condition. Or the fuel pump may be bad.
