No dash lights when headlights are turned on. Everything works fine on my vehicle EXCEPT today the panel lights don't work. Turn signals, hazard blinker, oil gauge, rpm gauge, speedometer, drive shift...


there is a regulator for the display brightness, you may have it turn'd down or it has stopped working;. it controls the brightness at which the dash lights are. usually has a speedo sign on it. goes up and down. it works with the main light and is conecter to them on the same lighting board if it has gone then a new light swtch control switch will be needed.

Low coolant, check the bottom of the water pump and the plastic coolant flanges on the cylinder head. They're all prone to leak

I drive a 1997 golf 3 GTI 16V. The car can't start when the oil temperature goes beyond 88 degrees celsius from the onboard computer, I have to wait for it to cool down for a while before starting. What...


Did you resolve this?
I drive a mk3 golf GTI 8V and mine starts fine but after driving for about 3 minutes (engine warms up) it starts to misfire, the car stalls and then you can't start it again until the engine has cooled. Does this sound similar?

try removing battery and cleaning all the ground under the battery tray and check main ground wire from battery to engine

Temperature warning light coming on,on a 1992 Volkswagen Golf GTI


The thermostat will show what the guage shows. the seal on the coolent bottle can be checked for tightness. so it could be a faulty sensor?

Mk3 golf gti 8v can not swich the genuin alarm imobilisor off with the fob tryed new batterys in both fobs dont now if it has lost its cooding or somthing? car has bean standing for about 6 weeks


Check that the key still has the chip inside. If not then this can be solved by having a 'virgin key' coded up to your car using the long number on the back of the clocks.
Also try disconnecting the battery for a few mins, reconnect, then use the normal method to start it.
If this fails then its a case of following the wires back from the immobiliser and disconnecting.

Hello there matey...I'v got a gti 8v anniversary!..it seems to have the same problem the day i brought it...some GTi's just do that...i have heard its got to do with the ECU..bringing fuel to the engine..they way i overcome the lag of a 8v was getting a Pipercross Viper induction kit!..I dunno if ur 4om england or america!?...here in england they retail for about £250.00!...but wooow! they make a different! the engine gets so much cold hair that it seems the pin is going to fly of! it flys past 5100 revs..and theres no lag!.. feels better than a 16v..also think of a ecotek valve made a alot of different even tho its used 2 M.P.G...
