Question about Toyota Camry

1 Answer

I recently noticed a difference in my car when i was driving i came to a stop at a red light. my ac started to become warm and i also noticed my rpm was low. so i asked my uncle and he said that they might just have to increase the rpm. but as i was doing research i read that the 2002 camry rpm aren't adjustable... is that true? then one day i went to work and my car wouldn't start. my uncle thought that it was the oxygen sensor but when we bought the part it still wouldnt' start. can someone please let me know what the problem might be? jq

Ck your drive belts , also yes the idle is controlled by a bypass air motor , ecm controlled , so is your car cranking over or spinning no run , broken drive belt or bad alternator , cranks over no start could be many things , no fuel pressure , no spark , timing belt failure ect

The car hesitates when idling or stopped at light/ stop sign, and the rpm drops to zero then goes back up.

The battery was a red herring - it would not have anything to do with the problem.
Faulty spark plugs could cause a miss but probably not make the engine stall.
What you described is a classic example of a faulty idle air control valve or a dirty throttle body. The computer controls idle speed by regulating how much air enters the intake. It opens the control valve to raise idle speed when necessary.
I would check the control valve and the throttle body.

Replaced water pump and timing belt on my '95 Plymouth Neon with 154,000 miles. Starts right up (warm or cold) but has a very lumpy idle and dies when I stop at a traffic light. It starts right away...

Welcome to Fixya

You might need to have a good tune-up with your car. Did you notice the needle of the RPM going up and down? The normal idle RPM is 600 to 800.

Thank you for using Fixya!

My car slams when put into drive. is it the idle

Yes, sounds like the idle speed is too high. If you keep driving like that, you will fry the torque converter / turbine. Since idle is computer controlled, you will have to take it for service tune up. There is one possibility that the rich, high rpm idle used for cold start is not disengaging properly after the engine warms up. Air conditioning will raise the idle speed by a couple hundred rpm, so avoid using it until you have the problem fixed. BTW.....warm engine rpm in idle, and neutral should be around 700-800. Anything over 900-1100 will result in a hard shift into 1st gear and dragging at stop lights.

AC blow out hot at low rpm

when you are stoped does the car idle fine. when the rpms are low the compressor does not get the pressure up high enough. you may need to get you idel turned up a little or your vaccume advance may have a vaccume leak.

Cold idle is right at 2k rpm.

could be a vacume leak. check hose for cracks or lose conections.

Certainly sounds like the o2 sensors have become contaminated and are not acting as fast as they used to , or are supposed to.
