SOURCE: ran out of gas.. that

I would check the fuse for the fuel pump first, and then if it is still good, hit the bottom of the tank fairly hard with a rubber hammer repeatadly while cranking engine over. It should start. If it does, this means that the fuel pump has gotten a bad spot in its motor, and should probably be replaced soon. When the pump runs out of gas to pump, it gets hot, and can ruin the pump motor if it was tried and tried again to start. Good Luck!

Does a 2001 Subaru outback have a fuel cutoff switch?

Yes it does ,but it only works if your car has rolled over in an accident. Your problem sounds as if your fuel pump died coincidentally when you ran out of gas. There are two ways to check. First get in car turn key to on position ,if you hear a WHURRRRRR noise in rear of car pump should be ok, if not pump is dead. Second is to have a preasure test done on pump. Test #1 has never failed me. Good Luck Friend.

My 93 chrysler town and country ran out of gas i added 3 gallons of gas still wont start turns over but wont start?

add another two or three. your fuel pump sits in a module which has a valve on it to let gas in, but as the car gets older that valve needs more weight to open and let gas in. this module is about 12" high, so if you fill the tank you will definitely fill the module as well. but adding at least two more gallons should get the car started

Ran out of gas and now it won't start after adding 5 gallons

the fuel pump is cooled by gas so if u run it low alot or {OUT} it can burn it up

Car ran fine last night. but today it turns over but wont crank. sounds like no fire or fuel. its not even trying to start. any suggestions?

If you live in a cold climate your gas line may be frozen or you may have water in your gas adding gas line antifreeze may help.

Wont start after 6 mos. I changed the spark plug, drained & added fresh gas, checked the fuel filter... Kicks over fine. Ran for 4 seconds, then it died. Always ran & started great before.

With a new plug and fresh gas it should start. Check to make sure there isn't a kill switch turned off or that the gas petcock from the tank to the carb is on.

How did you check the fuel filter? Disconnecting it from the fuel line that goes to the carb is the best way, making sure the gas is turned on under the tank. Bleed off a little gas into a can or something just to make sure the filter isn't plugged.

The last thing I'd do is take off the air filter and spray a little starting fluid in the carb. It may start and run several times if there is old gas in there somewhere. Remember the bowl on the carb is probably still full of old gas. After some fresh fuel reaches the plug it should start and continue to run.

(You might drain the bowl on the carb of ols gas before you go any further)

Good luck!
