Disconnect the battery and take off the starter and check the spline, look for some damage or worn out teeth,check also the solenoid if its working properly, if it appears to be ok, then go check your flywheel for some broken or worn out teeth.( you can check it by engaging in neutral and manually crank thru the crankshaft bolt.) good luck!

2000 Saturn LS2 makes thud noise when I finally get it to crank. someone told me that it is not getting oil to the top of the motor. Anyone know what's going on?

This makes no sense,

A thud may be bad motor mounts

A clank would mean the starter is engaging BUT not turning the engine.

Have it checked by a professional mechanic.

1995 traker made a loud noise like a lawn mower as I was driving

the shifter has a park neutral lock out device.
it will not shift out ( see left side of console for hidden cover, move lever inside for emergancy shifting)
until you start motor, step on the brake and then the solenoid in the shifter box
unlocks the shifter.

but that is not the problem.

back up.
car will not start or the car will not crank.

turn key ,nothing happens.
turn key , just hear starter solenoid click
turn key , motor cranks, grrrrrrrrrrrrrr, but will not start.

which is it.?

Have 1989 civic hatchback manual trans. will not start.. lights, dash light, radio all work but engine will not crank over and car will not start. did have this happen before but engine did crank over....

Based on your post, dash instrumentation lits up but will not crank, probable areas to check would be:
  • starting solenoid;
  • starter motor;
  • ignition switch;
  • alarm/security/immobilizer (if any).
Some thoughts on the above:
  • If it were the starting solenoid, you will not hear a strong click/clank in the engine area;
  • If there is a a strong click/clank in the engine area then it could be the starter motor or the high current switch (inside the solenoid);
  • You could verify the state of the ignition switch with the use of a voltmeter or simply hot wiring/jumping the wires;
  • Depending on the type of alarm, most would have a "Panic Button" or reset of some sort. Pls try to check.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
