Question about 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager

1 Answer

98 plymouth voyager after 2 miles or so loses all drive gears

Except first. Normally I have to pull over and shut off the car. then restart it and everything works fine. Reverse works just 2nd 3rd and od won't when this happends. sometimes when I don't stop it will start working after a few miles. any clues to what could be wrong?

thanks! I also noticed that since I just bought this car last week... that the trans fluid is over full would this cause the same problem?

  • james252709 Dec 20, 2008

the fluid is clean still nice and red. No metal shavings, trans runs great except when it stops shifting. I'm going to get the van up to autozone to run the service engine light scan and see what codes are comming up. I'm hoping its not a stuck sylinoid

When you shut the car off it resets the computer so it works again you may have a bad transmission sensor .or an internal trans problem.

When the fluid is over full it foams when its not getting pure fluid this can cause lots of problems.

you could change the fluid and check for metal in the pan this will tell you how bad the problem is also smell the fluid your looking for a burnt smell. if the fluid smells good problem may be small let me know what you find I have rebuilt these transmissions for 30 years and have all the manuals

I would be glad to help.

My 98 plymouth voyager expresso 3.0 flex fuel will not go into gear. trans fluid is good. what can it be?

With that model of Plymouth it is likely auto transmission needs a service. I am assuming you have auto transmission. Need to press the brake pedal before you can shift to D. But if the lever is not moving at all then solenoids could have gone. Go to a transmission specialist for Plymouth voyager.

94 voyager is stuck in second gear. no check engine light

if you are not mechanical, or don't have the tools, like an engine horst, to work on this, my best advice is bring it to.a good transmission shop with these front wheel drive transmission, the engine needs to be supported to pull the transmission out sounds like a snap ring broke, or valve body needs a rebuild, it could also.be your governor not building up enough pressure, because when you shut if off, and start it again, your pressure builds up.again these front wheel drive transmissions are not fun to work on, so if your not familiar with these transmissions then it's best to.have a transmission shop fix for you

How does the tensioner work for the Serpentine belt on the 1996 Plymouth Voyager?

Depending on what engine, there is normally a cut out near pulley that allows for 1/2" drive ratchet or johnson bar to be inserted, or you have to put wrench over nut in center of pulley and pull clockwise. careful if you've never done one, its strong, so make sure wrench is on good.
