You know I would doubt that this is caused by a speed wristed attendant, especially if you have removed and replaced the gas cap at the correct speed and the light stays on. ..................... ha ha.

Seems to be a recurring problem and having just spent a poop load of money with 2 dealers on that SES light issue I will tell you that the 2001 2.7 V6 engines have 4 O2 sensors and 3 catalytic converters. According to both dealers as those aforementioned parts approach the 100,000 mile marker they tend to send error codes. You get the errors cleared and 50 miles later there is the SES light again. The O2 sensors seemd to be very difficult to remove, both shops indicated you are better off to buy new catalytic converters, install new O2 sensors in them and then bolt in the whole mess as a unit. This of course assumes your bad readings are O2 sensor related. I would take it to a dealer as oppsed to autozone or advance as their generic little readers pale in comparison to the code readers at the dealership. price reflects that though.

Depending on the code it could be the fuel cap, if there are no driveability symptoms you may just want to drive it for a few days to see if it resets. or you could take it to vip, autozone or most of your local parts stores and have them pull codes to see if it is an evaporative system code. if its not an evap code then its not from the fuel cap.

Service engine soon light

Shirley,

if in N. America, the connector on all OBD2 cars is 1 meter or less

from the center of the steering column, usually at the knee level.

the CEL must be out or you fail here, in USA , in 1 second flat.

so. fix that first

the Monitor status can take 30 minutes of fast driving.

the EVAP (that means gas tank vents) tests takes the longest

and will not run out if the fuel tank is full, so get the tank 1/2 full say

and drive 30min and bam, all the monitors are complete.

in some states they allow one monitor to be incomplete.

no state stated., nor even country, Smog laws very by both factors.

my 04 GV the OBD2 16pin connector is by right knee, just under

the knee protector panel, by your knees, you must look under, not at it.

for 4 bucks, you can read and see photos of it here. for any suz.

this is the FSM.

good luck, and ask questions.

btw2, most autostores, or any ASE local mech will scan you for free.

ask em.\' not all are like stealerships.

I have a 2002 grand vitara suzuki the light of check engine soon is comming on I know the code is p.o. 442 . should I bring to the mechanic again? Thank you

First make sure your gas cap it tight. 3 clicks. On a 9 year old car I would replace the gas cap if the light does not go out after your tighten the cap, clear the codes, and drive it for a couple of days. It can also be a leak at one of the fuel vapor hoses or a leak in the EVAP system.

The replace of the fuel cap on the gas tank did

The next thing for you to try is the vent tube coming out of the gas tank fill spout, also get the codes read because many other things can put the light on and reading the codes will point you closer to your problem.

I need a maual for a 2003 Suzuki Limited Edition XL-7

You might be mistaken about the check engine light. I have done all the oil changes on my wife's 2003 XL7 and never once have I had to reset anything. If you mean the SERVICE ENGINE SOON lamp, that means the computer detected a problem with the emission control (or someone didn't put the gas cap back on correctly during the last trip to the gas station). Check the gas cap 1st, just take it off and put it back on, making sure to give it a few "clicks" past the stop. If after a few days the light doesn't go out head over to a suzuki dealership and have your ECS checked out.
