I assume your motor is out? These old suburbans will get to where the switch that wont let you roll them down when they are open sometimes is the problem, also the switch, and the switch you use with the key in the tailgate itself, also fuse, The motors also have an overload protecter that is not making contact from corrosion. I have many times been able to beat on the inside door panel while holding the switch and made them start working again, But back to you question, remove interior covering, usually screws and plastic clips, then locate the motor, look and see if you can detach the regulator from the glass. If you can unbolt them. I have had this problem many years ago, but I can't remember exacty how the regulator in in the tailgate, it may be riveted, or it may be bolted. I am assuming you have made sure with test light or vom the motor is getting power, IF it is try applying power to it and tapping it with a wrench or something. It might make it start working. I offer free advice for everyone and will help anyway I can so if this info is helpful in any way, my compensation is my rating.

How to fix my rear tailgate window

check the fuse/relay. if it is neither of these check the switch with a multimeter. If you can hear the motor trying to move the glass when you try the switch it may be the regulator needs attention. It may be the motor needs to be replaced.

check fuse and relay along with the switch first then the regulator and motor afterwards. Replacing the small electronics is obviously easier than having to open up the tailgate to check the mechanics of the winedow.

1986 gmc suburban door panel removal

You'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. If needed, you can pull back the weather seal (can't reuse it, but it's not that important) and you will be able to access everything inside the door

The key switch on my 1990 Suburban tailgate window won't work

Remove the back panel on the rear tailgate, should be some screws then pop off. From there you will be able to see the switch and see if you can operate it manually by using a screw driver and hitting the switch if not then replace it. Located next to the key lock

if there are no broken wires inside the tailgate try lubing the latches with WD40 and open and close the tailgate several times. If the latches are properly closed on both sides the window will not work

Tailgate window motor will not work

I have a 92 4Runner and I had same problem, went to a used lot and got the motor for $75 then it happened again almost a year later and my mechanic took all the panelling off, I went and got another motor yet it still wouldn't work, so wasn't the motor. I went back to yard where they put the switch in that controls it for $15. and thats what it was, and a lot simpler & cheaper to start from there first!
