Question about 1996 Nissan Maxima
Does it have to be changed?
The 1996 Maxima has a timing Chain according to the Haynes Repair Manual for Nissan Maxima 1993-2001.

Just about everything has a timing belt now days, because they are quite. A timing belt is a very important part of your car, it won't run without it, and in many cases if it breaks you will trash your engine in an instant. I'd change every time I change my other belts, I honestly believe that is a good rule of thumb, Your owners manual should tell you what the manufacturer recommends.
