Question about 1990 Mazda RX-7

Convertible will not rise or lower

The Convertible top on my 1990 top will not rise or lower. Is there a connection that I need to connect or is this a bigger problem? The previous owner did not want it to rise or lower so he took it to a shop to disconnect something. How do I undo this?

There are many things that could have been disconnected.
Take it to the same shop and have it re-connected.
If the previous owner will not tell you which shop did it, he is probably lying and the system is simply broken.

I have a 2007 mustang convertible top that will not go down. with key on windows go to park down position but no hydraulic pump sound checking fuses to ensure good power. where should i begin?

Principles of Operation
Convertible top operation is controlled by the smart junction box (SJB). When the convertible top raise/lower switch is operated, the SJB commands the front and rear windows to the full down position. Window operation is disabled while the convertible top raise/lower switch is being operated. When the SJB receives a full down input for both rear windows, it commands the appropriate relay closed to raise or lower the convertible top. If the SJB does not receive a full down input signal for both rear windows, the convertible top operation is disabled.

The convertible top hydraulic system uses a 12 volt reversible pump and motor assembly. When active, the pump uses hydraulic pressure to extend the hydraulic lift cylinders to raise the convertible top, or retract the hydraulic lift cylinders to lower the convertible top. The convertible top motor/pump assembly is equipped with a thermal circuit breaker. The circuit breaker typically resets after 5 minutes depending on the ambient temperature. The thermal circuit breaker cannot be repaired and must be installed as a unit with the motor/pump assembly. In the event of a hydraulic system failure, the convertible top cannot be operated manually.

    • check that the program card is correctly installed.
    • check the connections to the vehicle.

  1. If the scan tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the scan tool operating manual.
  1. Carry out the scan tool data link test. If the scan tool responds with:
    • CAN or ISO circuit fault; all electronic control units no response/not equipped, refer to Section 418-00 .
    • No response/not equipped for SJB; refer to Section 419-10 .
    • System passed, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, and carry out self-test diagnostics for the SJB.
  1. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Smart Junction Box (SJB) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index.
  1. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to Symptom Chart .

you may have to spray up the latch they do that sometime

Top worked fine yesterday but today tried to let down only clicked

It is a hydraulic pump that applies pressure to the 2 hydraulic pistons to raise & lower the top. So, check for something obstructing movement first.

The convertible top:
  • is motor-driven.
  • requires parking brake engaged to complete circuit for operation.
  • is equipped with a back window glass (42006) . The back window glass is permanently attached to the folding top back window curtain (52500) and cannot be opened.
  • Damaged fluid reservoir.
  • Damaged folding top hydraulic cylinders .
  • Damaged folding top motor upper and lower hose .
  • Damaged convertible top regulator.
  • Parking brake not engaged.
  • Open power distribution box circuit breaker CONV TOP (30A), fuse junction panel Fuse 1 (15A).
  • Circuitry open/shorted.
  • Damaged convertible top switch.
  • Damaged raise/lower relay .
  • Damaged folding top hydraulic lift motor and plate kit .

  • Convertible Top Does Not Raise/Lower
  • Open circuit breaker or fuse.
  • Circuitry open/shorted.
  • Damaged folding top switch.

I have a 1990 lumina apv. Lately When I have the heater going I cannot turn the heat down. I lower the "thermostat" to cooler but it remains hot. I can lower the blower speed but not get it to...

You need to check the blend door on the heater box to see if it is working by hand.The door is behind the glove box near top of heater box.Make sure it is connected to its control lever

My convertible top wont go up

You are probably low on fluid.
Behind the rear seat is the motor/pump/reservoir.
With the top down, fill the reservoir with ATF.
Cycle the system a few times.
Repeat till the reservoir will accept no mor fluid.
Chedk the lines and cylinders for leaks. The fluid must be going someplace.
You can change it to a manual top by removing the bolt at the top of the cylinders and lowering the both shafts down into the cylinders.

Window up and down

if ur buying new, you can only buy the whole assembly....motor and may be able to pick up a motor at a salvage yard, but they are hard to far as getting to the window motor....remove the seat....remove the panel on the side....remove 2 top bolts and 1 lower will have to remove the insulation tape to get to the lower bolt....then you can pull it strait out, disconnecting the wires connected to the bottom of the motor.

Window wont auto lower or rise to open door

my guess is the door lock mechanism is faulty.if the window control unit does not see a signal for the door being opened it will not raise or lower the window...does the interior light opperate when the door is opened???.if not you can put money on it being the mechanism.

Letting the top down

I had the same problem for four years until I purchased a CD from Ebay titled "BMW E30 Convertible". I discovered, that I was opening the top up incorrectly. The top works fine. Unlatch the top from the windshield frame, then lift up the back half of the top, unlatch the top lid, rise it up and lower the top into the compartment, close and latch the soft top lid. Hopes this helps.

There are two latches hidden above the visors.Release the latches and push the button for top down.

Convertible top's motor is out, is there another way to get it up?

you will have to find out where the motor is and disconnect the arm or mechanism on the motor and then you will be able to pull it up manually also just check the fuse for the top motor if you havent already hope that helps.
