Our 97 camry check enginlight is on shop says code is for the erg valve, it does not look that hard to change should i just change the valve with the hoses or the whole unit?

Try to change the egr valve, the part with the hose connected to it. That's, of course, that if the egr solenoid is working correctly. Be sure to clean the carbon out of the recess hole that the egr valve pintle goes into.

Good luck on this repair.

You need a shop manual to know what the teminals are.
If you can take it to a shop, they may be able to use the scanner, to command the EGR on and off,or resolve the problem. You won't be able to do that, as you don't know how the system works

Chevy 2002 Malibu ERG valve

Symptoms of a bad EGR valve are usually stumbling idle or the engine stalling when the car is warm (normal operating temperature). Find the EGR valve and locate the vacuum line attached to it. Start the engine cold and wait for it to warm up. When the engine starts to stumble, pull off the vacuum line. If the EGR is bad, the engine idle will stabilize and no longer stumble.

ERG Valve on 97 dodge intrepid, I have been told you need to drop the engine in order to replace the ERG valve. Are they trying to justify a large repair bill that I would be presented with, if I have...

YES THEY ARE!!! DO NOT DEAL WITH THEM! I hope you have it in writing that they told you that...because I would have them red flagged by reporting them to the Better Business Bureau! If you copy & paste the following link into address will see that the EGR Valve for your engine is easy to get at change WITHOUT REMOVING the ENTIRE ENGINE!

Erg valve

The EGR valve is located next to the TPS connector. It has two bolts holding it in place. You will need to replace the gasket when you take it off.
