How to change a fuel filter on 1998 F-150

The fuel filter is located inside the frame rail on the drivers side under the truck, it is a round canister about the size of a soup can. The lines are held on by internal spring clips and you need a special tool to release them. The line release tool kit is available from A\any NAPA or Carquest or Autozone auto parts store for about $8.00 or less. See pictures below of tool and filter.

Need to change fuel filter

You have to buy a special tool, Ford Fuel Filter Removal tool. The filter is located on the driver side frame rail, back towards the gas tank. Slide the tool over the fuel line and push it into the end of the filter, then pull the line out. Make sure you have the flow pointing in the right direction when you put the new one on.

Hello. The fuel filter is under the car in the fuel line. It takes special tools to change it and you can borrow those tools at most auto parts stores as long as you buy the new furl filter from them.

Do I need a special tool to change a 2005 Excursion fuel filter?

I changed the fuel filter in my 04 explorer last week. You to need a special tool, it is just a little plastic tool that you slide onto the fuel line to release the clips holding the line onto the filter. If you know what your doing and have easy access to the filter, and most importantly...you enjoy doing the work then buy the tool and change the filter. By the way the tool ranges from $5 to $20, depending on what the part store has on their shelves.

its easier and less trouble some if you have the right tools but it can be done with a screw driver and a pair of Needle nose pliers. Use fineness.
