Question about 1985 Buick Regal

1 Answer

Buick won't start. Sounds like its not getting any fuel

I have a 1995 Buick regal 106,000 miles. The car ran fine all day. I went to start it but it would not turn over. It sounds like it's not getting any fuel. Is that normal for this car with that many miles?

Yes! I did not hear anything. Could that be the problem?

When you turn on the key... go to the back of the car and listen for a humming noise (fuel pump)
do you hear it running or not ?

that was a do NOT hear anything.... and that would be with the key in the start position... just before you start to crank it over

fuel pump is likely died .... before you do a major repair like that tho... check the fuse and the fuel pump relay.... i can't recall if there is a fuel shut off on those but it would likely be located in the trunk area

the pump can sometimes be pricey... the repair involves removing the fuel tank.... removing the fuel pump from there .. replacing it... then putting it all back together again... i'd check the others first

i think you might be right it sounds like your engine is getting over fed fuel you are probably not getting very good fuel mileage either the 3.8 and 5.0 would defintely require the same volume of fuel it is probably playing havoc on the pressure regulators i would get another fuel pump and start there

Fuel pump, fuel pressure will read within specs until the pump gets hot, and sometimes this shows up intermittently, I discovered this with my Moms 96 Buick Regal, it was such an intermittent symptom / problem that I couldn't find the problem for about 6 weeks of troubleshooting, but I stumbled on the fuel pump not holding pressure(even after testing many times) then that one time I caught it, and replaced it and that fixed the problem.
Good Luck !

You have two pumps,I guess you know that ,if you already did one. Did you check fuel pressure at the rail and check out the electronic pressure regulator? What codes are coming up and do they stay set?

ENGINE IDLES ROUGH, BUT RUNS FINE WHILE DRIVING. My car is a 1995 Buick Regal Gran Sport with the 3800 series motor with 212000 miles. The rough idle tarted after driving through some muddy and wet roads

go the cheapest route. replace fuel filter and add SEAFOAM to tank of premiun fuel. replace filter before 500 miles. then add SEAFOAM to gas every 3000 miles to keep lines.engine, fuel pump, and emissions systems clean, ETHANOL problem number 3000

It's probably the mass airflow sensor and/or oxygen sensors.

Check to see if your alternator is charging. You can do this by having the vehicle jump started or with a borrowed battery. while the vehicle is idling, remove the pos battery pole.. if it cuts off .. then ypur alternator is bad or the charging circuit ( like a break in the line or fuse etc.)

I have found the most common part failure issue with the ignition system is the crank sensor, also called by some the TDC sensor.
