1997 Ford Thunderbird Transmission Problem

I have a 1997 Ford Thunderbird with Automatic transmission problems.
The car surges not all the time when diving normally, it is like it was put in nutural. At first the o/drive light did not come on but it does now. ( it flashes)
I have had the sensors replaced, nutural safety switch replaced and some elctrical wiring and is still doing the same thing.

Can anyone tell me what they think. email lkeener003@yahoo.com

Thanks

Helloquilterboy 19 and angleo63, I had in the transmission shop in June. it seems to only happen when its windy or wet, He "rebuilt" the transmission(or whatevery he thougt needed replaced) and it happened the very next day, so I took it back and he said it was a bad sensor so he replaced it, has happened 2 times since June again either windy or rainy days. Last monday it snowed and let it has happed big time. He then has replaced the wire harness and I picked it up streets were okay but by afternoon it was slushy from the snow and wala it happened again. the car has 210k miles I love my T-bird this is the only mystery that makes me Hate t he car. but in a situation where I can not get rid of it. so more suggestions would be greatly apprieciated.

    Thanks again.

Either its a short in the electrical harness because it connects right by the trans( it could be because of water , snow etc). or your trans is about to go out period trans lite doesn't always come on to say trans is slipping if check engine lite is on 9 times out of ten trust me the trans is about to go. so have harness checked then trans. and if its a 4.6 like mine get ready to spend around 2000 for rebuild.ive had this problem in 2 of my Thunderbirds same out come trans rebuild that's exactly what happens first trans light comes on second od doesnt work third check engine lite, then one day it slips for good and trans light starts blinking, my advice get it checked and rebuilt before you mess the engine up trust me thats next.

the electrical harness is very expensive to replace the whole thing. So he probably just changed a section of it you ask me ill tell you straight up if you want to know what really going on take it to the dealership and let them run the diagnostic on it and if you find out its something the other guy didn't do bam take it back and let him know aim sure its still warrantied do it now. i love my t bird to and Ive learned not to let this half *** mechs mess me around. its your car they are out to make a buck remember that.and truth be told all he may have done was splice the wire and fixed it himself. when i was going to replace my harness different parts were different prices to do it all was close to a grand.

Brake sensor. It tells transmission, brake is depressed and allows you to shift out of park. Or check with diagnostic computer, free at some major retailers. Most likely a sensor, if not transmission may be bad.

Sounds like more of a fuel problem to me.Check fuel pressure 35-40psi and or change fuel pump. Any was the car is equip with a TFI module which controls gas, spark and timing. Located in one or two areas.
First spot is in the front of the car next to radiator passenger side. It will be gray in color about 3" long bolted in a heat dispactor. Spot 2 Drviers side of fire wall next to the master cylnder.

Transmisson on a 3.8L automatic V6 Thunderbird problem.

Never add anything to an automatic trans but the correct fluid.
New fluid will make it slip worse
Lucas-is a waste of money and may ruin your trans.
You may get away with removing the valve body and cleaning it.
I would suggest a trans repair shop, but don't let them sell you on rebuilding yours until they try the valve body, unless the fluid is burn't,then your done, as you already should know

I am having a major transmission problem. i have no forward gears. why is that?

The fiber clutches inside of the transmission have probably burned up. Check the transmission fluid, if it's black thats a bad sign. The transmission will have to be rebuilt or replaced.

Transmission change

You will need to get a repair manual. A Ford Service Manual that can be found on ebay is the absolute best. Your request is too lenthy for this forum.
