2002 chevy malibu-rough idle

My 02 malibu recently had some repair work done to it because it was overheating. The repair shop ended up replacing the intake manifold gasket, water pump, and fuel injector o ring. When I got it back, I noticed a loss of power while accelerating-car would take forever to accelerate. I also noticed a slightly rough idle. Took it back and ended up having the catalytic converter replaced. That took care of the loss of power but my car was still idling roughly. Also, I noticed that at speeds above 40 mph there is a whirring sound reminiscent of a Star Wars Pod Racer that seems to be coming from underneath the car. Since then I've replaced the spark plugs, fuel filter, and have used several fuel system cleaners but the problem is still apparent. Any ideas?

no the temp light doesn't come on any more since they fixed the water pump/manifold gasket. i took it to some mom and pop place-the dealership i bought it from sent it there(yeah i bought a frikin lemon and there's nothing i can do about it) anyways, the acceleration problem is fixed, it's just that i have a somewhat rough idle and there seems to be a whirring sound coming from underneath my car when i reach speeds 40 mph and above. also my check engine light just came on so i'm going to run a scan and see what kind of codes i get.

Where are you taking the car for repairs? try meineke sorry about the spelling, i had gone in there to check to see what the deal was with my car without even having it there the guy told me the issue, so since i was stuck at or close to another shope i got my parts from advance auto and had the other shop put them on. but with your acceleration and everything it sounds like some sort of sensor or a leak some where. pop yur hood while it is rinning and take a water spray bottle and spray around the the headers and stuff. and if you smell to much exhaust coming from the front end could be a smalll issue.

I would check the throttle body, where the fuel mixes with the air also clean all pipes/connections etc after that you should know where to go next, but give the "plate" inside where fuel and air mixes, carb

Check the idle air control valve for carbon buildup. Also check for a vacuum leak.

My 2002 Chevy Malibu is overheating. I found that

If your car is equipped with a 3.1 or a 3.4 litre V6 and you have preformed all of the above listed work then I would have to say its the intake manifold gaskets. They commonly blow on these motors. Just a design flaw, nothing but replacing them when they leak can fix this. Also run a coolant pressure test on the system to check for minor things like a leak that you cant see from visual inspection. Hope this helps.

I first heard a squeek then when i was parking steering got hard i checked fluid its full

Same thing happened to me a week ago... I was parallel parking and my power steering locked up.
My car ran fine, however every time I braked and turned simultaneously, the steering got hard.
I took it into the shop, it needed new power steering pulley parts.
On my way to the shop however, my car started chirping.. it also needed a new serpentine belt (I'm not sure if the problems were related).
Both repairs together cost me under $200.
Hope that helps... (by the way, my car was stable enough to drive the 25ish miles to my work before I got it fixed... I'm not sure how safe that was, though)
