Question about 2006 Chevrolet Impala

No heat when engine temp is normal.

My 2006 chev impala. (V6) (Just purchased) When i start the engine with the remote the engine temp will come up to normal without supplying any heat to the cab. Until I get in and raise the rpm to about 1500 or so...suddenly i will have heat. If i allow the engine to go back to idle for a period it will blow cold again.

this is indicative of a low coolant level or air trapped in the cooling system from a poss blown head gasket.

Had the same problem with my 2006 Impala with the 3.5 engine - there is an air pocket in the heater core. With the engine cold, remove the upper heater hose (marked with blue tape in the picture) and add water to the hose until coolant comes out of the metal cross-over tube. Fix takes 5 minutes…all you need is a pair of pliers and a funnel. No heat when engine temp is normal. - f7b2b4c.jpg

thanks very much, this is the most helpful advise on this topic! After I topped up coolant in the reserve and engine I removed the hose marked with blue tape and of course there was an air pocket. I did exactly as you suggested and voila! I have heat while the car is idling. Thanks!!!

First of all check and make sure you have enough coolant both in the radiator and in the reserve do this when the engine is cold, and if it is very low top it up and check for leaks and repair as needed

My 2006 impala 3500 does the exact same thing. No not a thermostat problem, if you read other posts engine is at temp. Also, flushed the system and refill with fresh coolant using a flush T to bleed system. Still intermittent heat. What does this flash do.

How are you adding coolant, why, and how is the engine overheating ?
It could be that you have a blown head gasket and the engine is burning the coolant out the exhaust.

I would change the temp sensor and first make sure the coolant is full in the rad with no air in the system.

2007 chevy impala, automatic start stopped working and now the engine light in my dash is on?

this is normal operation for gm factory remote start if the ck engine light is on the remote start will be disabled. Because with the ck engine light means that there is something not operating properly and gm has put this in there system so you will not damage the engine by remote starting the vech with low coolant and let it run for 10 min and over heat the engine and cause engine damage.

My 2006 V6 Impala isn't throwing any heat. Could

It may need a thermostat but first always do the obvious make sure that the reserve tank for the antifreeze is 3/4 full, low antifreeze can cause a loss of heat. First check that then do the thermostat. Be sure to bleed out the air from the system look for the bleeder screw it is located at the highest spot on the systems connections usually at the upper hoses housing, unscrew to bleed after the motor has warmed up while running.

2003 chev impala 3.8 the temp gauge goes up 1/4 of the way..what shd the normal reading go to I wld think 1/2 way on the gauge? I just think the air shd be hotter when set on hi

During the winter time the engine may not produce enough heat to go half way. You can modify this by installing a hotter thermostat. But I would not go more that 20 degrees F though, or you could create issues for summer driving.

if you remove wire connection from temp sender unit and guage goes down then reconnect it goes up ? it is probably the temp sender unit is fault this is if you are certain engine/coolant system is ok and no indication of o/heating ?

My 2006 chev Impala (V6) blows cold air out of the heater until I raise the rpm to like 1500 (or so). Engine coolant overflow is empty but when I pull the rad cap off the rad is full. Could this be an air...

These cars easily get air trapped in the coolant system. Park the car somewhere so that you car get the right front of the car as high as possible. Take the coolant filler cap off and start the car. You should see air bubbles appear as it bleeds it self. Once coolant starts to overflow put the cap back on. It should be fine now but if not repeat again.
