car turns over but wont fire

  • oceangirl_94 Feb 20, 2009

This morning when I went to start my Cavalier it wouldn't start until about the 5th try. Then after getting it moving it sputtered and wouldn't go over about 35 mph. The idle kept going up and down and it didn't feel like it was going to take off after stopping. The acceleration was very slow after it did start to go. I did get it to drive about 10 miles, but haven't moved it since. Spark plugs??

My 2002 chevy blazer cuts out or bucks at highway speeds

is there any check engine lights on? also a leak in the vacuum lines will make it jump in and out of over drive. could be a few problems. wish i could help more, sorry. if you have a vacuum leak it would also make you heater controls not work like they should, like if you put it on defrost it will only come out the vents and so on.

The PO 316 is still misfires om first 1000 revolutions
so the shop did a poor job for you on resolveing the
cylinder misfires

Try a diffferent shop

Have to clean the MAF Sensor & replace upstream
oxygen sensors if over 100,000 miles

Need the correct oem spark spark plugs/any brand

No reason the gas filter should be clogged unless it was in
the car for 10 years

Fuel pressure should be checked

Need to check for cylinder misfires on a road test of 20
miles or more with professional software in Mode#06

2002 Chevy Cavalier misfire

You may want to check for fuel volume and fuel quality. There may be moisture in the fuel. It would also help to know which cylinders it is misfiring on. Scan tool will show the misfire on live data.

My 1998 plymouth neon has a number 4 cylinder misfire. changed plugs, wires, coil pack. still misfires. does it at slow speeds and really bad when trying to get up to speed when entering the highway....

CHECK FUEL INJECTOR WIRING TO NUMBER 4 INJECTOR,HOOK A TEST LIGHT TO MAKE SURE IT BLINKS WHILE ENGINE RUNNING.THAT WAY YOU WILL KNOW IF PCM FIRING THE FUEL INJECTOR OR FAULT AT THE INJECTOR WIRING OR YOU HAVE INTAKE LEAK LOW COMPRESSION TO THAT CYLINDER BECAUSE OF BAD BURNED OUT VALVE.COMPRESSION TEST TO THAT CYLINDER CAN ALSO HELP.LOOK FOR LOOSE OR WORN DAMAGE ROCKER ARMS IF YOU HAVE A SOHC SINGLE OVER HEAD CAM ENGINE.

I have a 1995 chevy cavalier with a 2.2 liter engine recently it developed a miss fire. The car was taken in for a diagnostic test and we were given a list of problems that were wrong with the car incl....

Well the car is 15years old so it would be best to start off with a compression test.
A misfire can be the result of many things. Check for poor compression in 1 or more cylinders, Stuck, bent, or leaking valve, water in the fuel, Clogged CAT, insufficient fuel pressure (needs to be over 33PSI.), Clogged fuel/air filter, faulty ignition components like coils, plugs, and wires.
Is the Engine Service Light on? If so, I want to know what the code/s are. Let me know.

Is there a reset button on this fuel pump

CHEVY DOESN'T USE A FUEL PUMP RESET/CUTOFF SWITCH, FORDS USE THIS FEATURE, ON A CHEVY IT IS DONE WITH THE OIL PRESSURE CUTOFF SWITCH, SO IF U LOOSE OIL PRESSURE THE FUEL PUMP CUTS OFF, THIS OIL PRESSURE FUEL PUMP CUTOFF SWITCH AND IT'S WIRING ARE NEAR THE OIL FUILTER UNDER THE TRUCK.
