Question about 2001 Pontiac Sunfire

1 Answer

Realy esnsor I am working on a friends pontiac sunfire. I have changed the plugs and wires and will not start.. She had run in with a medium sized snow bank about a week ago, when she got it out she could only go about 10 miles an hour and the car spit and sputtered and was also starting to over heat. Could a sensor need to be reset?

The 2001 pontiac sunfire has a very common electrical problem right off the line....nothing is done right.....check the wire for the starter relay and if they are ok check the starter solinoid itself if its the same problem if you go to tighen the terminals they will bust off from voltage arking inside

I guess you have a Pontiac sunfire, but, I need model year to look up info?
If you think there is a fuel problem, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. That popping might be a valve or valve timing issue. Can you check applicable trouble codes? If you have a code number, what is it? To check codes, yourself, if your obd2, you need an obd2 code reader.
At the moment, I don't believe you have a timing sensor. You probably do have a crank and cam sensor. I wouldn't replace anything unless your testing points in that direction.

98 pontiac sunfire turns over but wont stay runing

When was last healthy tune up? Plugs, wires, all fluids & filters??? Especially fuel filter? I'd start there and run a good fuel system cleaner through it.

2000 sunfire will not start? nothing wrong with plugs, it has compresson. it will roll over . fuel pump is running. the moduel is ok because we have another sunfire and we tryed it on the other car. why...

It sounds like it might be a bad crank sensor. Although I had a sunfire one time I was working on that did this from a bad ignition switch. Check for power on the pink/blk wire at the ignition module plug with the key in the run position and when cranking the engine. Also do you have a security light flashing?

2000 pontiac sunfire misfire

Solution is in the wiring harness....these cars are noted for this as it runs under the rad exposing it to the elements and corrosion. You will need a dealer with the proper scanner to read the code & find the wire.

Changing spark plug wires

WEll u dont need to remove anything This is what i did lift your car up with a jack. where you oil filter is you will see you plug wires running into your (ICM) Ignition Module unplug them and slide them to the top of your motor. dont get them mixed up otherwise your timeing will be messed up and your car wont start. on the ICM from the top to bottom the plug numbers are 2,3,1,4 and on top of the moter from left to right 1,2,3,4 just make for sure u have the right order..
