Left tail light works fine with the headlights off but when you apply the brakes with the headlights on, the entire left tail light goes off. It comes back on when take your foot off the brakes.

My tail lights and brake lights work fine until I turn the headlights on, then the tail lights work fine, but the left light goes completely off when I step on the brake. I've replaced the bulb several times.

No Tail Lights, and the heat lights on the inside are not on, but if I click the defrost it comes on

When my lights are on, the left brake light will not work.

I have the same problem with my 99 JGC. With the lights off the brake lights work fine. But turn the lights on and press the brakes the bulb goes dark. No tail lights. No brake lights. The central brake light above the window lights in either case. This is an 8 cyl, automatic, limited, with towing package and an after-market electric trailer brake switch installed.

The problem is with the connection from the light bulb holder to the socket that the bulb and holder go into. I believe on my 01 JGC it was the top light that was going out when i applied the brakes with the lights on. If you remove the light bulb holder in the tail light assembly and look at the area that the bulb and holder came from either the metal that makes contact with the holder for the bulb is depressed, or in my case it was cracked. You can use a small flat scewdriver to lift the metal in the tail light assembly, or as i did, i just put some tin foil on top of the metal, then reinstalled the bulb and holder ontop of the tin foil (this makes the elec. connection). seems like a rigged up solution, but made sense to me, and worked!

Solution # 3 worked. Apparently the assembly design in error allows the bulb to be put in backwards which causes the cotacts to be bent down. By rising the contacts in the holder the contact is reestabished. Also insure the bulb is placed in correctly. Thanks for your help!

Rear light and brakelight don't work when headlights are turned on 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My first guess would be a ground problem.
The headlights and tail lights are controlled by the same headlight switch, but the brake lights are on a totally different circuit.
You may have to get a shop manual to get the wiring diagrams needed to troubleshoot the circuits if the ground connections are ok.
The lights involve the body computer and other components.

If you have any extra fuses, try replacing the ones for the head lights and tail lights. Make sure the fuses you replace are the same color as the ones you replace them with, that way the voltages are the same. Another issue is that a flasher could be going out.

There is definitely a short in the park lights system. Did you just have a radio installed....since the illumination wire sometimes gets grounded and will cause that fuse to blow until you fix that wire.

2001 Grand Cherokee Limited- Driver side rear brake light does not work if tail lights are on. When you step on brake tail light also goes out. With lights off everything works ok.

Very common issue is the lamp assembly (dealer item). They are very bad to ground back through the tail lamp filament, lights on the path has voltage on it and the lamp will not work.

My rear lights on my 99 jeep grand cherokee do not work when I turn the lights on. They work fine when the lights are off. Any idea as to what the cause might be. Any place I can view a wiring diagram...

These Jeeps are notorious for the retainers breaking that hold the circuit board type wiring against the bulb contacts. With my 2000 Grand Cherokee, the brake lights would work when the headlight/tail lights were off. If the lights were on, the rear lights would go out altogether when I pressed the brakes. The easist fix would be replacing the tail light assemblies, but these are not cheap. My fix was to open up the inside cover of the tail light housing and use machine screws in each of the locations that the plastic tabs hold the retainer against the light housing.
