Re: Heater/AC Fan does not work in our 1998 Buick Century
Fan will be under dash on passengers side , Removing glove box might be needed, Gm also uses a blower resister ro control fan speeds. First check your fuse and then check and make sure your getting 12 volts to the terminal at the blower, You could have a blown fuse, a bad switch, or a bad resister , if your getting voltage to blower motor then most likely it will be the motor. These are not to difficult to change. I hope this helps, please be aware I can only guess at what the problem is from my past experience.

usually this is from a burned up blower motor resistor. Not very expensive to replace, but can be a pain to get to. I do not think it is that bad on the 05 Buick though. It should be in the bottom of the AC/ Heater box under the passenger side of the dash, like under the glove box area. pull the lower trim panel under the passenger side of the dash and there should be a wire connector going right into the bottom of the heater box. unplug the wire and there should be 2, 7mm if I am not mistaken, screws holding the resistor block into the heater box.
I bet you have a leaf or leaves inside the heater blower compartment. The blower motor fan is always turning slowly even though the AC or fan is turned off to provide for ventilation. See if the grinding noise changes when you turn the AC fan on or off.
I suggest that you by a manual at the parts store, but if you dont want to do that, go on to autozone.com and register on their site, from there you can get step by step instructions on most of what you want to do. Good luck
Your fan uses resistors to reduce the speed of the fan. Hi speed doesnt use the resistors and that is why it runs on hi. Standing in front of the car, all of your heater housing is on the left side of the firewall You will see a connection with about 4 wires That look like they go nowhere. Take the couple screws out and pull it out. You will be able to see the burnt one.Jump out the burnt on and that will give you another speed or two.
They are located behind the right front headlights (passenger side). There is a bank of four relays mounted on a common holder. The four are for various purposes, one of which is to control the ac fan on the low settings. I got a bank of four used relays from and olds off of ebay. I plugged in the part number off the one I had into the search box to find it.
