They sell no parts for the alternator, just a complete unit, at least not that I can find at and they carry most everything.

According to my sources only the Jeep dealer sells parts for the alternator, I would just replace the whole unit, it will be cheaper.

I am getting a code telling me my voltage regulator diodes are bad on my 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan. Should I be replacing the PCM to fix the problem.

Not sure about the 96 but, voltage regulators generally have to do with the alternator. As a matter of a fact you can just replace the voltage regulator on the alternator as opposed to spending the money that it cost to replace the whole alternator, I found this out because a mechanic ripped me off and charged me for a alternator but, he only replaced the voltage regulator diode part on the alternator.. Replacing the PCM is going to be expensive and in my opinion not necessary

2005 Pontiac Montana Battery runs down overnight if voltmeter on the dash indicates a charging rate of 1q4.9 volts of higher. Bad sticking? voltage regulator?

Replace the alternator, bad diodes in it allow the battery to discharge. Most all alternators now have built in regulators.

We have changed the heater core,,, and thermostat.. it is still blowing cool air... i bought the coolant temperature sensor but dont know where it goes is it behind the dash board also?

Hi I have a 2002 JGC ltd and it is most likely your dampeners or louvers located behind your dual temp controls for driver and passenger sides that control the direction of air flow from air outside in, circulation, heat to windshield, centre and or to floor etc. I had a friend that had heat only to the passenger side and cold air blowing to driver side. He took it in and they replaced stuck dampeners and it was not cheap. I also had a 98 JGC ltd with the (coolant sensor is bad) warning coming on at least 4 to 5 times in a day and had heat. My problem is that my interior glass was fogging up, used glass defogger and stop leak. The problem was fixed but I still smell antifreeze because of the leak and it is irritating me. I may consider replacing the heater core and was wondering if you took it in or did it your self and how did you do it if you replaced it yourself, plus how much did it cost you?

How to fix a diode on a 94 nissan maxima

When replacing a diode always follow its polarity,You have anode and a cathode. on one end of the diode, the purpose of the diode is to limit the voltage. If you are replaceing the diode in the alternator it is shape one way, just unsolder it

Key stuck in ignition of my 94 gmc safari, had to unhook the battery to turn the van off. Do I have to replace my ignition, or is there anything else I can try first?

Be sure to check your charging system, it usually self destructs when battery is disconnected. what happens is the voltage regulator goes full out, and fries diodes...

94 ford ranger 2.3 stnd 2wd, jerks and backfires after warms up, unpluged new alternator, starts running normal again. replaced alternator different brands, same problem. getting 14.5 volts on alternator...

talk with an auto electrician as there are now many alternators that are controlled by the ECM ( voltage regulator is in the ECM) 14.5 volts -14.38 volts is good voltage control so the problem may not be the regulator at all
problem could be a shorting diode in the circuit or other problems not connected to either the alternator or regulator such as wiring shorting out , bad connections etc
may even be an ECM problem

Battery light comes on. Had battery tested and it's OK.Checked battery voltage with key off 12.04 volts, started it voltage is 14.45. The light comes on after driving for awhile.

OK, sounds like a bad voltage regulator or loose belt. But, it's more likely a voltage regulator on the alternator that is not supplying enough voltage to the battery over time.

For maximum peace of mind, I would have the alternator replaced if you experience any starting problems attributable to a weak or undercharged battery.

14.45 volts doesn't sound bad to me, for an initial voltage, but there may be a problem with the alternator (like a bad diode trio) , which controls the battery charge light pretty directly.

Hi I have a 1982 volvo wagon, the battery light on the dash won't turn off and i just replaced the battery. Any advice? And is it going to continue to drain the battery?

Yes,the alternator is not working, replace it and it will turn the light off. There is a problem in the alternator.A diode ,or the voltage regulator in the alternator is bad.

Battery charge spiked up on 1994 jeep grand cherokee ltd.

check the battery cable connections, are they clean and tight? This can cause the charging system to spike and go into the 16-17 volt range, the other thing is a problem with either the alternator or the voltage regulator, a diode that is failing can cause this issue.
