Could have possibly broken the shifter cable, or one of the ends might have come off, either of the shifter or the transmission.

When this happens check the brake lights, are they on when the pedal is pressed? If not that is the problem.Your car has a park lock system, it is released by pressing the brake pedal but the lights must work or the Park lock solenoid is not powered up and doesn't release the shifter from park position.

Okay, you are correct, the key is stuck because of the shifter lock wont release, the most common reason is its stuck, you will need to remove the covering around shift to get to shifter lock release solenoid, there you will clean and lube it, you will need to move it by hand as you spray wd40 on the arms, you will see how it work by pressing the shift release and you will see to lever that gets pushed, it wont move because its stuck but you will see the levers move inside, hope this helps, good day.

Do you still feel the same feedback from gear lever when you change gear or it appear loose? It looks like a gearbox problem, maybe due to low gearbox oil something has broken inside the gearbox.

I would not try to start it if it is in first gear!!! I would check the shifter level on the transmission. May be a linkage or shifter cable problem.

My 1993 chevy van will not shift out of park

is it parked in a steep hill, if so,try to releave some pressure off it,and try to shift it,if not, block wheels so van wont move, inspect shift linkage,if ok,undo linkage from tranny, try shifter invan if it moves ok,if not, inspectshifter and linkange,if its ok,try moving shifter arm at tranny,be careful!if it doesnt move, youll have to take oil pan off tranny and inspect park gear lock.

Van trouble

The gear shift selector is probably "locked you out" because of the fact that there is a Park-Safety solonoid that keeps the car in park unless your foot is depressing the brake so that the gear-shifter cannot come out of park unless a person is trying to move it.

Why that isn't working is probably because the battery on your vehicle is completely 100% dead. If a battery is completely 100% dead, a jump-start is usually not enough to get a vehicle to start because the battery's electrolyte level is so low that it can't actually hold a charge. I recommend you replace the battery at your first convenience, as it will probably alleviate both problems.
