Question about 1989 Chevrolet C1500

1989 Chev Cheyanne 4x4

My 1989 Chev 4x4 emergency brake light flashes 9 short and 1 long continuously. I am wondering what this is indicating?

    man i have the same problem.....it a code from the computer...but i havnt had time to call and find out......if you find out, please let me know

If its got antilock brakes,then its trying to say "HELP"im not working correctly--probaby bad sensor at the wheel either side front,or bad electric motor that drives the antilock brake system

Why do my parking lights continuously flash. Slower than emergency lights. I can't turn off flashing, even when engine turned off and key removed.


There are separate flashers for directional and emergency lights so they might not flash at the same rate.

Check your emergency brake. Make sure it isn't partially pressed in. Try unplugging the switch to the emergency brake and see if the light goes out; if it does the switch is bad.

Brake indicator light is on on dashboard in 1989 ford tempo-what would cause this?


first make sure the fluid level is full, next make sure the emergency brake lever is all the way down if it is located in the console or make sure emergency brake pedal is all the way up if it is the kind you push with your foot

While driving home from work my ABS light illumintaed then my 4X4 high light began flashing. What do you think the problem might be?


For some year models of Explorers involved in the Cruise Control recall, there were additional wiring problems caused by the modification of the Cruise Control. These problems included yours and Brake lights working independent of the brakes. Contact a dealer about this SECOND service bulletin.

The above problems are more likely if the 4x4 is showing a light and the vehicle is in 2 wheel drive. The ABS indicator light is usually to be trusted without the Cruise problem. It would not hurt to check the brake pad linings, sometimes the lining shifts and drops down off the metal of the pads. Finally if the ABS light is still showing a problem that you can not find, check the Emergency brake pads inside the rear rotors.

The Blinkers and the Brake Lights are the same bulb. So check the brake light switch. Flashers use a different flasher unit, than the turn signals

its possible the switch on the e/brake unit broke, take a flashlight and locate a single/double wire that goes to the e/brake assembly (this is the piece you depress with your left foot) and look to see if the wire is broken or the switch the wire goes to is broken.

Park brake light flashes 10 times. For 1989 Chevy 1500 pickup. What does this mean?


This truck probably has Rear Wheel Anti-Lock (RWAL) brakes. There is a small black module near master cylinder that is the brain for this system. There are ways to check for diagnostic trouble codes in this system. Once you have any codes set, diagnosis can be fairly simple. PROCEDURE:
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) 's can be displayed by jumping terminals "A" and "H" of the Data Link Connector and observing the flashing of the "BRAKE" warning light. This should only be done when the brake lamp is "ON".
The terminals must be jumped for about 20 seconds before the code will begin to flash. Count the number of short flashes starting from the long flash. Include the long flash as a count. Sometimes the first count sequence will be short. However, subsequent flashes will be accurate. If there is more than one failure, only the first recognized code will be retained and flashed.

NOTES:
DTC's 6, 9 and 10 will only turn the "BRAKE" lamp on while the fault exists. These are soft codes faults and can only be read with the Tech 1 scan tool.
Do not jump terminals "A" to "H" if the "BRAKE" lamp is not on. Jumping the terminals with the "BRAKE" lamp off will set a false DTC 9. This will turn the "BRAKE" lamp on and disable the antilock system.

    Hi I have a 1989 F150 and none of the brake lights work. I checked the fuse, the brake peddle switch. Oh and the emergency flashers only work in the front.


    SOUND LIKE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH COULD BE BAD.SOME CARS BRAKE LIGHT CIRCUIT SHARES THE REAR PORTION OF THE TURN SIGNAL CIRCUIT.
