Is the engine spinning faster than normal during cranking? If it is, check the timing chain. Upper gear may be shot. If so, change chain & gears.

    Timing: Just because the crank mark lines up with the scale does not mean that the cam (that drives the distributor) is indexed correctly. Quick check is to remove the cap, with the crank at "0", turn the crank backwards and note the distance it must be turned before the rotor starts to move. Slack should not exceed 10 or 12 degrees. If more, chain has streched or top gear teeth have come apart.
    On the other hand, is there 12v going to the coil? if chain is good and there is 12v there, change the pickup module in the distributor. As far as I know, there is no bench test for this part. Check pickup wires also to make sure they have not broken.

Lost fire from distribitor

96 1.6l ( there are 3 fuses. FI, COIL and dome) fix those first.

the coil is inside, did you check the output of the coil
for spark cap off dizzy? is that no spark.?
is the tachometer dead cranking.? if yes no tacho, then there
is no coil drive. from ECU.
the Dizzy is 100% controlled by the ECU.
the ECU has an OBD2 scan port above the right knee,
plug in any scan tool ($50 hand held)
crank motor over , see if RPM shows up, if not then CMP is dead.
read the scan tools DTC codes, is the ECU complaining of bad sensors. ( this is #2 after fuses) do not work on cars with no scan tool, this is a waste of time, and money.
no start or better no spark. if really true.
sometimes mech think there is no spark but the cam belt slipped
or the cam is not even spinning, dizzy rotor dead, dont turn.
or the coil really does have spark and dizzy timing is way off.
Dizzy clamp bolt, loose? bad spark wires, connected backwards.

Jeep 95 wrangler power to coil no spark changed wires cap coil need help never gave me a problem before won't sart checked ground everything looks good

Remove distributor cap have someone tap the key while you watch the rotor inside the distributor if it does not move that is the problem then it could be the gear shear pin has broke or cam is not turning distributor.

1989 golf turns over, new distribitor and starting

Did you use electric grease on these parts, the plug wires,and coil pack need this grease on there. It prevents moisture and wetness from rain getting within the components and causing mis-fire. Did it rain or was it cold outside to produce moisture. Grease is $2 for small pack. I just worked on a 95 VW, changed the cap,rotor button, spark plugs, cleaned throttle body, new air filter, fuel filter. His would run fine, but would cut off sometimes up to hours until the moisture dried. After tuning it up, he no longer has the problem. He goes through water puddles to see if it will quit, but it hasn't yet. Worth a $2-$3 try.

My car wont start but will crank and thers no spark

Look to the source of the ignition spark that supplies all 4 spark plugs. The ignition coil supplies spark to the rotor and the rotor sends spark to each individual spark plug wire via the cap and rotor. If you are getting no spark check the cap and rotor for wear and then go to the coil and see if it is malfunctioning. If all of that fails then the sensor suppling the signal to the ignition coil is probably to blame. Usually the Camshaft or Crankshaft sensor that feed signal to the ECM or the ignition coil. Be methodical, follow your way down the line and check everything and you'll find the problem for sure!

Spark from coil but not from plugs

Hello;
Take the distributor cap off, and turn the engine over. Does the rotor turn? Then pull the #1 spark plug and with your finger over the spark plug hole , tap the engine over to top dead center. See where the rotor is pointing. Also check to ensure your points are opening and closing. With an ohm meter make sure you have continuity through the carbon for the coil in the cap. Hope it helps.
Thanks;

No spark to the engine

it might be the coil.the coil is what sends the spark.it plugs in to the center of distriutor cap.
