Question about 1994 Jeep Cherokee Country
4X4 6 cylinder jeep. Trans seemed to just stop during long trip. Well after it cooled down, it will move, but makes groaning noise. Could it be the front pump?
Generally speaking, pumps don't fail by themselves, but become worn by contamination from failure of a bearing or other "hard part" within the transmission. Changing the pump may result in temporary, short-term fix, but it will likely be very short term. I recommend that you either rebuild the unit or get another one somewhere. Don't forget to change the converter and flush the cooler before putting it back on the road!
