This is a UK Mitsubishi D-ID Elegance L200. Disconnecting the battery does not work

  • westy20 Dec 18, 2008

This is not a warning light that tells you there is something wrong, it is a message on the in-built Sat Nav screen that tells me the service is over due.

  • westy20 Dec 18, 2008

Tried the main dealer, but because I had it serviced to the manufacturers spec elswhere at half the main dealer price, the main dealer wants £50 to switch it off....... I don't think so.

  • westy20 Dec 18, 2008

It's not a problem, it's an annual service reminder light, I have already had it serviced but the warning message has not been cleared.....

  • westy20 Dec 19, 2008

Service message still on last suggestion did not work.........

  • westy20 Dec 19, 2008

The service has been done, but the message needs resetting..........

  • westy20 Dec 19, 2008

I was sent me a solution to reset the sat nav screen, don't understand, where and when should the soft reset appear? where and when do I touch the screen....... Thanks

You can turn off the maps by hitting the audio button on the radio

then

Menu button -> Settings (top right on screen)-> Clock (half way down) -> Off (bottom left)

or, press the Display brightness button (on the left above Map) a couple of times. It cycles through day, night and off.

Let me know if this helps

I'm afraid the message can only be erased with appropriate diagnostic equipment. Definitely no other way guaranteed.

Ok here is what you need to do!!!

1.) you need to get a diagnostic tool or someone with one (mostaly any autotechnician has one)
2.) get them to reset the codes as if the car was serviced.

Normally when the srevice due appears, it means its time to change the engine timing belt, oils, service the fuel injection system, throttle body and change filters. After this is done the mechanic then uses the diagnostic tool to tell the car's computer the service was done and its ok for a next year. the car waits a year and then it comes back up again..

You should really consider having the service does especially changing the engine timing belt. It could snap and result in damages. You can also try removeing the negative battery pole, pressing the brake right down for one minute with the front passenger doors open and this sometimes resets the computer as well. But more than likely you will need a guy with a diagnostic tool to do it for you..

NB.. Some cars if not serviced in a certine period will shutdown completely until the service is done, e.g. BMW's Porches etc.

You can only do that with a diagnostic tool or code scanner!!! you need a technician to do it for you unless you want to invest $5000.00 to buy one!

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Dec 20, 2008

U need tyo reset the onboard computer !!!!! It involves clearing all the error codes and telling the computer the car was serviced. just servicing it will not disable the codes nor is there any way to disable it besides the diagnostic tool. If you need further proof please contact Mitsubishi and they will tell you the same thing except that it needs to be done by one of their approved centers. I'm saying anyone with a diagnostic tool OBD2 Can do It. If you want your own tool you will need it buy it and its expensive. If the mechanic serviced the car and did not clear all codes and rest the computer It will ALWAYS display the service soon warning light.

Is it service overdue according to date or according to milage. If it is according to date you can try to change the calendar (to change month or year or so) if it is according to milege you can not do anything, because the adjustment of odometer is illegal. You need to bring it to repair shop or just ignore the message or try to remove the fuse responsible for display supply for a while and put it back. But again any hard adjustments and changes like that (i mean playing this power supply) sometimes not safe for a car as they can harm the main computer and you will endup to paying more at the end espetially for Nisssan
Good Luck

You don't have to take it to the dealer it can be done for free. Take the vehicle to your local Auto-Zone and they will check and tell you what that problem or problem then you can ask them to rest. ITS FREE. Do Not disconnect battery you will need radio code.Good Luck.

Welcome-
why can't you take the car back to the shop it was last serviced at and tell them that they forgot to reset the light. otherwise there might be something about how to reset it in your owners manual for the car.

thanks
Tom

    Welcome-

here is a procedure you can try:

    - How to Reset Service Light Put key in ignition, push down and hold trip reset button while simultaneously turning key to position one, wait a few seconds then turn the key to position 2 (all the time holding trip reset button down.) Then service light or yellow triangle, depending on car will flash a few times and then go off.

I will try my hardest to help you as long as I can find different procedures for you. your happyness is my policy.

    welcome-

I found another procedure for you to try:

You can reset the service interval countdown by pressing and holding the mileage trip, turning on the ignition (the dash lights come) and continue holding for about 30 seconds. the mileage counter will reset. hopefully this one does it.

    happy holidays

    turn ignition to pos 2

keep pressing the reset button until buzzer sounds and new miles display appears

That normally means that you have to pay them to get rid of that message. In your manual should be a area telling you what to do to pay for that service.

If you dont want to pay for it you can always return it to the dealer somehow.

Why not check a few things first before you decided to clear that code. This is by the way, the way the computer of your car tells you there is a problem in the system. Why not check the oil in the engine, transmssion oil, coolant level, maybe see if a stark plug wire is loose. Those are easy things to check and sometimes that will knock that light off. It is true you could clear the computer but why? If the computer kicked that light on there is a problem. If you let it go, it will get worse and will cost more to fix it. Take the car to a shop. If you decode the message and it talks about a sensor or something would you know how to change it? And no I do not agree that clearing that message is a good idea. Because it might end up being much more time and money costly down the road. In that the car stops along the side of the road someplace. Hope this helps

You can reset the warning by unplugging car battery cable for ten minutes or so. however, if the light ison, that means that there is a problem, and the car should be inspected by a mechanic.

If you unplug battery remember that you will need your stereo code afterwards.

On the pajero/montero you can reset warning light by pushing the reset switch in front of the combination meter. I don't think you can du the same on an elegance.

The ECU on an Elegance can be reset by using an ODB tool, but also by disconnecting the battery cable for ten minutes or so, ensure you did the operation properly.
