This is a hard one, because the power to displacement ratio is pretty good, considering the design isr 30 years old.

Things like pod filters make no difference on just about any car, so forget that. The exhaust does sound nice when a 2" is fitted, but I can't say the gains are noticeable on the CB23.

I do advocate a modification to the vacuum hoses, that allows a few degrees more advance and better pickup. You swap the hoses like so and advance the timing about 12mm on the flywheel dimple. It still allows starting because the dizzy isn't allowed to adavnce until the throttle snaps open, unlike the stock piping setup.

Note where you existing hoses are in case you want to swap back. When you make the mod, listen for pinking up hills and retrad the timing a tad until it stops.

Although there is minimal power gain, the Bosch Super 4 plugs are great for eliminating misfires and regular maintenance.

Make sure you keep the points gap at factory. If you can source an electronic dizzy and coil from the 1990's era G200 series you will notice increased torque and nvere have to worry about gapping points again.

Empty the gearbox oil and replace with Redline

Check your engine mounts aren't splitting. Any undue flex will load the CV joints and you will lose power to the wheels.

The G11 has a rubber bushing on the gear selector control rod that wears away causing the gear stick to wobble as you drive. Replace this with an OEM bushing or make one yourself from some rubber hose.

These are peripheral mods. If you intend getting stuck into the engine internals, there is head work you can do, plus a new set of rings and bigend bearings will freshen up the power.

You can also try to source a CB60/61 engine and enjoy the spirit of a turbocharged engine.

Do you want to top up the engine oil or the transmission oil? The transmission oil plug is on the top side of the transmission. You need to lift up the car to do this. Best thing is to bring it to a service station.

Hi My 89 G11 charade intermitently looses power when on open road & feels like it is starving for fuel. It does not miss but looses power until I floor it (opening 2nd throat) & then it will often...


A dirty carb may be one of the causes. A carb cleaner sprayed at it while reving will help clear out dirt. It can also be fuel and air mixture especially if you have erratic or incorrect idling. You may also want to look at the fuel filter if it needs replacement.

Hi - There is a engine manual for the cb-60 engine, can be found on the net. With drawings. I found it on an Australian Daihatsu net club, i think.

Size of Jets for 1984 Daihatsu Charade G11 Turbo Carburettor


You won't need to change the jets. We have had the Cb60 pumping 75- 90kW on the stock carby. Are you trying to increase performance there are better ways: e.g. RHF5 series turbo, lightened flywheel (4.5kg) with Mazda 121 clutch plate and 1600lb pressure plate. Swap in a G202 electronic dizzy& coil, and replace vacuum advance diaphragm.

Horsepower for g11 charade


The turbocharger is the way to go. The standard turbo version of the CB23 is the CB60 or CB61.

It might be easier to source a turbo engine rather than go through the process of modification.

The Cb60/61 has a small IHI RHB32 hairdryer stock, but enthuisisats throw them for an RHF5 series. The engine is blow through carby, the carby being fitted with positive pressure diaphragms as is the distributor.

Spare PArts for Charade G11K 1985 (Petrol)


Where abouts are you? If you are in Europe try Camskill in England. If Australia try Repco or Daihatsu Auto Recyclers. You will probably need rconditioned CVs too.

With the engine you may find it's getting a little worn and the compression is down. Try retarding the ignition a tad and make sure your points are gapped correctly.

Bosch Super 4 plugs work well on the 3 pot engine.

Trying to fit G202 electronic ignition to G11 Charade. The G202 coil has blue/brown wire and black/blue. G202 distributor has black/brown wire and black. Can you tell me where these wires should go?


The colour coded wires seem to differ at randomn. To identify the cables:

Dizzy:- use a multimeter set on ohms.. When you measure about 3 meg ohms, your red probe is on the +ve wire and the black probe is the signal to the coil.

For the coil, it hard to measure the primary resistance so the general convemtion is looking at the pins on the coil with the taper at the top, the +ve is on the right and the signal (coil -ve) is on the left. Sometimes you'll notice one of the wires on the coil is a thicker gauge, which is generally the +ve.
