What does it mean when the oil life read 000000 oil life %

you lost your operaturs guide, huh.
why not get one and read it.?
so you dont need to post ,for every light that blinks.

it means you forgot to do the service,
or you for got to reset it after service, done.
the PCM uses math to guess at oil change's is mostly just EPA BS.
it just a lamp to glow and keep the poor humans busy.
most guys just ignore it and do the service when needed.
like we did for 100 years. before this bs.

Its showing 0% oil life on my 06 impala what does that mean?

It means it's time to get the oil changed. It should be at 100% after it is changed and it will decrease over the mileage you drive to let you know it's getting close to change.

How do you know when to change the oil?

The oil should be changed every 4,000 miles. You can keep a log of the mileage at each oil change, or just divide the total mileage by 4,000. Change the oil at 40,000...44,000...48,000...etc.

Should I have the oil in transmission changed?

I would not go by the oil change company recommendation.
It's much better to go by the car manufacturer's recommendation. Look in your owner's manual for the recommended time/mileage to change the transmission oil and filter.

Oil was changed and check engine light was not reset

This is really easy! Please follow these directions:

Turn the key ON

Look at the odometer, and verify that it displays "ODO" and the total mileage traveled. If it is on "Trip A" or "Trip B", press the black stick next to the odometer to read "ODO", and the total miles traveled.

Turn the key OFF.

Press in, and HOLD the black trip meter reset button, hold it in.
DO not release it.

Turn the key ON; do NOT start the engine

Observe the Odometer display. The total mileage traveled will disappear, and you will see 5 dashes, then 4, then 3, then 2, then 1 dash, and finally, 5 zeros. Then, the total mileage traveled will redisplay.

Release the black trip meter reset stick.

This completes the reset procedure, and the light will be back on in 5,000 miles, to remind you of you next oil change.

Hope this helps, and thanks for choosing FixYa. Happy Thnkasgiving!
