Question about 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

2 Answers

Check engine light still comes on after replacing oxygen sensor twice in past month. Told dealer that car sputters at least once per drive. After replacing sensor a second time light came on very next day. Could this be a fuel injector problem? I am taking it in for the third time in 5 weeks. Getting very frustrated even though it is covered by warranty.

Hi buzdizbuster, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?

Yes, a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will help with this issue. It should be on your repair work order.

If code says same o2 sensor. It could be the other one they communicate with each other. But definitely get the codes pulled again first.

SOURCE: Check engine light on 2006 Hyundai Sonata with 62K kms

Hi, since the check engine light (CEL) is on you need to get thetrouble codes read. Most auto parts stores will do this for free. Ifthere isn't one nearby, any shop should be able to read it (for acharge) or you could buy your own code reader.

The code(s)you'll get will be in the format PXXXX like P0171 or similar. Once youhave the codes you can look them up here to get a description - http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/

Orpost the codes back here and we'll help you out. The next step is toget those codes though so you know exactly which areas of the engine toconcentrate your diagnosis efforts on.

In your case the problem is intermittent but it keeps coming back so something does need attention. The reality is it could be something as simple as a loose gas cap (since you have no real symptoms), however it could be more serious. Better safe than sorty, I'd recommend you at the very least get the code(s) read so you can judge for yourself how serious the issue(s) is.

Good luck.

SOURCE: 2001 Elantra stall, loss of power. Driving at

I am having the exact same problem with my 2001 Hyundai Elantra. I was told that the engine code that comes up when the sensor is on is called "Absolute Pressure In The Manifold". I was told by a "Hyundai Specialist" that when that code comes up it usually means that the seal on the manifold is Fuct. When my mechanic checked that out for me he had noticed that my manifold had 4 cracks in it(can varify cause he showed me). He replaced the manifold and gasket. The car ran fine for about 2-3 days and since then the problem has since come back and my check engine light will no longer go on/off it only stays on. Because of the check engine light always staying on I have noticed that on many occasions my car will hiccup many times in a row. The only way to stop the hiccup I have noticed is to take my foot right of the gas for approx. 2-3 sec then car will continue without hiccup(till it happends all over again). All in all I have been having this problem now for approx. 1 year and if there is somehow someway it could be repaired I would appretiate it.

SOURCE: location of oxygen sensors on 2002 dodge grand

The o2 sensors are located on the exhaust system. The upstream in on the rear exhaust manifold and the down stream is in front of the catalytic converter.Usually when they are bad they will make the check engine like go on.Make sure the air filter is clean, tires at correct inflation, alignment is to specs. If the vehicles pulls to one side or the other or steering wheel is not straight when driving down a straight stretch of road. Also tires are wearing normal.Use cruise control where ever on highway. If you let your vehicle warm up in winter. This also uses gas.Hope this helps.Good luck.

This sounds like they are not sure what the problem is, i would take it back may have a bad injector and they tryed cleaning them but it sounds like one may be bad, its getting repaired for free i would take it back and tell them its still acting up and just keep records of what they are doing just in case the problem returns when the warranty is up.

2002 MR2 fuel system too rich bank 1 and bank 2

Peter. The dealer did diagnose the problem. They said the car needed all 3 oxygen sensors replaced. They were replaced and the car is now returning codes p0172 and p0175 which are the only 2 codes coming up when the check engine light came on. My question is if the dealer sold me the incorrect oxygen sensors could this cause the computer to incorrectly set the p0172 and p0175 rich fuel mixture codes. There are no other codes coming up. My plan at this point is to check and clean the MAF, check my fuel pressure, and also the TPS but I did not want to waste my time if it could possibly be that the new oxygen sensors where the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

you need to have the code checked. most auto parts stores do it for free. that will tell you whats causing the light to come on.

Where is the knock sensor located on a 2005 gmc sierra 1500 4x4 5.3 L

Do not replace with Autozone knock sensors unless you feel like doing the job twice as I found out the hard way. I replaced mine and a week later the check engine light came back on. Went to the dealer and was told they have seen this problem many times before and to use oem replacement parts only. The two sensors and harness ran me about $230 from the dealer but no more engine light and no more sputtering. Hopefully I can return them to Autozone as soon as I find the receipts.

My engine light came on with a diagnosis stating 2 possible bank 1 problems. They told me it could be my oxygen sensor or my cat. convertor. I had my emissions test last year with a perfect score, all zero...

last year doesnt count. What was the code? the oxygen sensor is cheaper than the converter. Have a dealer check it. toyotas are best with the converter from the dealer. so have them confirm the problem.

Check engine light on car sputters and lurches as you drive. My mechanic changed some sensors problem still there. He can not seem to find the problem. Took it to dodge they told me to clean the fuel...

well by the sounds of it your car is past it and it may be time to replace it...easier said than done! however, i suggest checking all your connections are clean (simply pull apart and spray with conection cleaner)

a bad or disconnected oxygen sensor will make the engine run rich.
How about a clogged air filter?

Lean bank one on my toyoata corrolla code scan

I would try replacing the spark plugs. The lean code can be caused by an ignition miss as the oxygen isn't used up completely in a misfiring cylinder.
