It was driving then idled bad and died and will not start. It turns over but will not fire. Ive narrowed it down to the truck not getting any fuel

If you can hear the pump working the first thing I would do is ask your self when was last time fuel filter was changed and you gave it a good tune up and replaced the drive belt

assumed battery and starter are good, r u getting fuel and sparks? it need both. if sparks then no fuel, if you get fuel then no sparks. no fuel, bad fuel pump, no spark, bad coil.

How to locate and check fuel pump on 03 ford ranger edge Fx4 4.0

Locating the fuel pump is easy, it's in the fuel tank. Testing it however, is a different story. To test it "by the book" requires a scanner that can access and run "Output Test Mode" diagnostics on your engine computer, a fuel pressure gauge, and a digital volt-ohm meter.

If your engine will not start and run, you can do this to see if maybe it is the fuel pump:
First pull one of the spark plug wires to see if you have spark while someone cranks the engine for you. If there is spark, continue with these instructions. If there is no spark, close this thread out and start a new one for "2003 Ford ranger has no spark" Be sure and say also which engine your Ranger is equipped with.

Find the fuel pump relay in the under-hood fuse and relay center. The lid on the fuse box only has numbers. Your owners manual will tell you which number is the fuel pump relay. Feel the relay with your fingers while someone turns the ignition switch to the "run" position. You should feel the relay "click" then about 2 seconds later, you should feel it click again. If this is doing this, then chances are that your fuel pump is bad. (we are assuming here that you had spark above.) This is not a complete or "foolproof" test by any means, but it is probably 85% accurate for "Cranks, Won't Start" problems.

My 2001 ford ranger is hard to start turn the key for 5 seconds let off turn again and starts right up let it sit for 15 to 29 min and hard to start again changed injectors plugs and coil pack runs better...

sounds like fuel pressure bleeding off. Bad fuel pump or bad pressure regulator on fuel rail. Can you hear pump run for 5 seconds when you turn key on? do this twice, 30 deconds apart and see if it starts ok.

My 1986 ranger turns over but won't start, I replaced the main fuel relay and the fuel pump relay, what else could it be?

I would take off the gas cap and listen when you turn the key on. You should hear the pump run for about 5 seconds. If you don't hear it then I am sure that the fuel pump is bad. Very common. But if you hear it. Then you can take some starting fluid and spray a small amount in the air filter. Then try to start it. If it starts, then it is for sure a fuel problem. If it doesn't start then, it is something electrical.

Good Luck! I hope this helps! If so PLEASE vote! Thanks!

check the fuel filter to see it that is plugged up. When turning the ignition key to on only without trying to start the engine you can hear the fuel pump running for a few seconds if working. If not the pump is bad
