ABS light I have a 1999 F 150 & recently a light came on the dash that reads ABS. What is it telling me?

My 1999 F150 ABS light came on 2 weeks ago. The back wheels lock up with excessive or quick application of the brakes. Disconnected battery to reset computer (per a web page to check if this could be the problem). The ABS light is still on.

ABS STANDS FOR ANTI LOCK BRAKES. FIRST CHECK THAT YOU HAVE THE PROPER AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID. IF THE FLUID LEVELS ARE OKAY, THEN YOU PROBABLY HAVE A FAULTY ABS SENSOR.

Brake light and ABS light, stays on in my dash on my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 2WD, changed pads / rotors, lights went off for a second than came back on

May be a wheel speed sensor on one of the wheels (that's how ABS tells what wheel is in a skid). Also may be a faulty ABS pump. Standard ODBII scanners will not tell you the issue. You have to have a code reader that specifies ABS codes. A bit pricey as an initial investment, but if you plan to keep the truck for while, it's cheaper than taking it to a shop to have the codes read every time there's an issue.

ASB Dash light stays on, what do I do and how

You need your vehicle checked with a scanner that reads ABS codes. Not all scanners can read ABS codes. Most likely it's an ABS wheel sensor that's bad. I've changed a few of them on 02 & 03 Explorers.

Good luck.

Hi I have dodge grand caravan 2006 and on the dash borad the hand break and ABS light stays On all the time, can you tell me how to fix it plz i have checked the break oil level. Thank you

It is entirely possible for the break light to be on because the ABS light is on. The first step would be to see if there are any ABS codes. This can be done with a multi-function scan tool capable of reading ABS data/codes. An OBDII type code reader will not work for this.

Once you know what the codes are post them here and I'll be happy to help you further!

I have recently purchased a preowned escape and today my abs light came on and is staying on, can you tell me what is wrong with it as I have a 2 year extended warranty on the suv

It is an OBD2 Emission System Malfunction,
as are all lights that you get on the dash

You have a possible ABS Braking System Failure

ABS Dash Light on??

the abs system has picked up on a problem with the abs. the abs will not be functional till the problem is repaired. the abs cpu needs to be scanned for fault codes and it will tell the mechanic exactly which part of the system is having trouble. once fixed the light will go out. mike
